Passed in 1975
Guaranteed every disabled child received the proper education for free
This law helped to improve the way disabled children were taught and
identified, assess these attempts and determine if they were successful,
and provided protection for these children and their family's rights
1 million students with disabilities were backed by this law
Supported children who were denied education and had limited access
to the appropriate education

Education Act
Guarantees a free appropriate public education
Some disabilities it recognizes: hearing impairments, autism,

hyperactivity, learning disabilities, and mental retardation


Every disabled student must be provided with an I.E.P.
Passed in 1975
Previously known as Education of Handicapped Children Act
Changed name in 1990, when the amendments were passed to the law
Amendments passed in 1997 and 2004 to establish access to
education was the same for everyone

children succeed in school through a specific plan
Describes support needed that is special to each child and the

School for Special Education


Serves those who are disabled greatly and medically fragile
In Clark County School District
Ages range from 3-21
Serves children that have multiple impairments
Different services are provided based on their IEP, such as Health Services,
Physical Therapy, Speech or Language Therapy, and Occupational Therapy
Communication is key so notes are sent home daily from teacher to parents,
phone calls are made frequently, and parents are made aware of events

Helen J. Stewart School


School of special education that serves students with intellectual

disabilities and secondary disabilities


Ages 6-22 years old
Receive learning on daily living, functional academics, vocational,
communication, behavioral, and transitional needs
To enhance the learning for these students, they have a pool that
is indoors, a room for cardio, a barn with farm animals, and a
room to teach daily living
Students receive help with technology individually daily

Miley Achievement Center


Teaches students from ages 3-21
Emotional and behavioral disorders is the types of students this school
focuses on
It focuses on their benefiting from academical education, social education,
and vocational education
IEP is how students are placed at this school
All people have the basic right to be treated with dignity and respect is
the basic belief of

Variety School
Provides education for ages 6-21
Provides programs in a positive environment, various
options, and specific individual options
Helps the students to apply to the job market and
successfully compete with other candidates
Help students learn throughout their life
Helps students make informed decisions for the rest of
their lives

Homebound Instructional Program


Provides education specialized for those who are unable to go to school

due to sickness or wounds that inhibited them from attending a regular


school
Education is given for a consecutive 15 days
Students must be physician qualified for the program
Full-time teachers and teachers under contract are employed for the
program
After their regular hours is when they teach and drive to the students
home
One-on-one instructions are given for elementary students and IEP

Least Restrictive Environment


Complies with the Individuals with Disabilities Education

Means: to the greatest extent, disabled students should
experience and be educated the same as non-disabled
students
Originally lead to mainstreaming
Aids are provided by the district if needed to
accommodate certain special needs
Inclusion comes from this idea
