Overview: Provide a short summary of the lesson or unit including topic, assignment or
expected/possible products.
The unit will analyze how elements of a story interact and compare and contrast a written story to its film
version. Prior to beginning the unit, students will create profiles using Edmodo. An introduction to story
elements will be done through notes using prezi.com. Students will read and watch Rikki Tikki Tavi. The
students will analyze story elements including characterization, setting and the plot used in Rikki Tikki
Tavi. The students will also compare and contrast the written text and movie version. Students will create
a storyboard depicting the plot of the story and show development of characterization. Students will also
complete an ongoing discussion through Edmodo to collaborate the development of characters both in
the written text and movie version of the story. They will also be responsible for identifying the plot of the
story and compare and contrast the differences and similarities of the written text and movie version.

Resources: How does the LMS (e.g., Edmodo) you chose support student learning? Give some
specific ideas using particular features of the LMS.

The idea of mirroring Facebook is an excellent way to keep students engaged while learning. This LMS
has many features to ensure safety and allows the teacher to monitor what is posted and protect students
from unwanted members. The site can be used to provide remediation for students who need additional
help through the sites library as well as apps section. It also provides a calendar where students can be
kept up to date of when homework, quizzes and tests are scheduled and due.
One of the most important features of this site is the fact that the students can communicate with one
another to collaborate and peer tutor with immediate feedback from each other and the teacher. The
teacher can post materials for students to review and keep an ongoing discussion covering everything
discussed in class. One other feature that is beneficial is the ability to create groups. This can be used for
projects and gives a way for students to work together outside of class and keep up with their work. The
students can take quizzes two ways either through the quiz site or snapshot. This LMS site provides real
time results and progress, which helps students to know exactly what they need to work on and what they
have mastered. Homework can be assigned and submitted as well. The LMS also has a link for apps
which students can use for practice and to create work to submit for assignments. By incorporating
technology that is similar to the students social media, this maintains engagement and fosters learning
through technology.
Instruction and Activities: What learning activities will students complete and how will they
complete them (e.g., online discussion in Edmodo)? How will you differentiate content and
process to accommodate various learning styles and abilities?
Using Edmodos library, a pdf version of the written text will be uploaded for students to refer back to the
story. Additionally, all powerpoints and prezi links will be included for students to review. Homework,
which will include review of vocabulary from story, story elements will be posted and turned in through the
assignment link. Students will post updates throughout the lesson. In order to accommodate various
styles of learning and abilities, small groups will be created based on learning styles and abilities.
During the beginning of the unit, the teacher will model how to set up and use Edmodo. During class,
students can work collectively to setup their page and explore the site. The students will be grouped
based on knowledge and ability to use technology. (Prior to beginning unit, an assessment on knowledge
of technology will be completed along with permission slips from parents sent home.)

Students will take a quiz over identifying story elements, and reading comprehension using the quiz and
snapshot feature of the site. Students will also complete a storyboard using the storyboard app found in
the app store. Once students have completed their storyboard, they will post it for peer
tutoring/assistance.

Assessment: How will you assess how students are progressing and what they produce/do (e.g.,
a quiz in Edmodo)?
Students will be assessed through submitting homework daily over vocabulary, and elements of a story.
During class, the mobile feature of the LMS will be used to answer poll questions throughout direct
instruction. The students will be required to make at least three posts to an ongoing discussion about
elements of a story, understanding of the story read and compare and contrast the written text with the
movie version. Two quizzes will be administered using the quiz and snapshot link in the LMS site. The
teacher and students will be able to track their progress and provided communication between one
another through the site. Also, students will be able to ask one another for input. Lastly, students will be
provided with a direct link to create and submit their storyboards through the storyboard app. By using
Edmodo to link the students to the storyboard app, they will have the ability to collaborate with one
another to create their plot diagram over the story. The final assessment will require students to write an
essay comparing and contrasting story elements from the written text and the movie version and submit
their essays through Edmodo. All feedback and progress will be communicated through Edmodo.
