LA VIDA ES
UNA ESCUELA
Queridos Buyu, hoy me gustara
compartir con todos ustedes una
enseanza de Hatsumi Sensei.
La vida es una escuela , a veces eres
maestro y a veces eres alumno. La
bsqueda del camino del
medio(Chudo) es uno de los objetivos
de las enseanzas de las artes
marciales tradicionales.
Hoy quiero contarles una historia que
me acaeci con Hatsumi Sensei.
Hace algunos aos durante una clase
Hatsumi Sensei aplic una tcnica
sobre m y luego me pidi que
expresara lo que haba sentido. Todos
sabemos que cuando, recin te han
aplicado una tcnica, la confusin es el
elemento que rige por antonomasia;
as y todo bajo esta confusin
comenc a dar una explicacin sobre
el movimiento tcnico, porque el
brazo estaba aqu porque la pierna
la movi all etc. Despus de una
consolidada explicacin tcnica
Hatsumi Sensei me mir y dijo Pedro
lo ms importante es el corazn Toda
mi teora se desvaneci.
En algunas clases ms tarde Hatsumi
Sensei me pidi, nuevamente, que le
atacara y despus de derribarme con
una facilidad impresionante me pidi
nuevamente que expresara mi
sentimiento. En esta ocasin yo dije
que las tcnicas procedan del
corazn, que todo provena de all, que
el impulso del corazn creaba el
movimiento fsico Entonces
Hatsumi Sensei hizo un silencio, me
mir y dijo. Pedro mientras sigas
pensando de esa forma nunca
progresars en el Budo
Entonces sent un escalofro por todo
el cuerpo casi llegando al shock. Mi
mente fue incapaz en aquel instante
preciso de aceptar aquella confusin.
La enseanza que Hatsumi Sensei
me estaba transmitiendo era muy

importante. Me estaba diciendo que

no me agarrara a nada fijo, y que
deba aceptar el cambio como forma
de entrenamiento. Claramente me
propona que buscara el camino del
medio, que no me fuera a ningn
extremo; que buscara el equilibrio
en cada situacin y an cuando
estuviera desequilibrado all exista
un instante de equilibrio.
Este es el tipo de enseanza de
nuestro arte marcial. A veces las
damos como profesores y a veces las
recibimos como alumnos; de esta
forma el proceso se completa.

LA ESENCIA
Existe un poema que hace referencia a
las enseanzas de Kukishin Ryu. ste
poema, segn mi punto de vista, nos
relata la esencia, lo esencial.

El sacrificio
La capacidad de sacrificar el propio
equilibrio para poder vencer al
oponente es necesaria desarrollarla.
Existen tcnicas muy clarificadoras al

respecto; algunas de ellas es la tcnica

kuruma, tomo nage yoko nagare. En
todas ellas uno, por propia voluntad se
arroja al suelo para poder proyectar al
adversario.
Por otro lado, debemos usar la fuerza
del adversario. Esta idea conlleva
usar la energa que el adversario
proyecta sobre ti para poder derribarlo.
En realidad tomamos su fuerza la
reciclamos y la devolvemos al
oponente..
Y por ltimo, eliminar todo poder y
fuerza innecesaria cuando aplicamos
un movimiento. Esto consiste en hacer
desaparecer cualquier resquicio
restantes escuelas.

LIFE IS
A SCHOOL
Dear Buyu, today I would like to share
with you one of Hatsumi Sensei's
teachings. Life is a school, sometimes
you are the teacher and other times
you are the student. The search of the
medium (Chudo) is one of the
objectives of the traditional martial arts
teachings.
Now I would like to tell you a story that
was memorable with Hatsumi Sensei.
Some years ago in a training session,
Hatsumi Sensei applied a technique on
me and then asked me to explain what I
felt. We all know that when someone
applies a technique on you, confusion
is an element that fully prevails, even
with this confusion I started to give an
explanation about the technicality of
the movement,because the arm was
in this mannerthe leg was placed
over thereetcAfter a full technical
explanation Hatsumi Sensei looked at
me and said Pedro the most
important thing is the heart
After this, all my theory disappeared.
Some training sessions later, Hatsumi
Sensei asked me once more to attack
him and after defeating me with great
ease asked me again to explain my
understanding and feelings about that
technique. On this occasion I said that
the technique came from the heart,
where everything came from the
heart's impulse creating a physical
movementHatsumi Sensei then
paused, looked at me and said, Pedro
whilst you are still thinking in that
manner you will never progress in
Budo I then shiver all over nearly
getting into the state of shock. At that
precise moment and time my mind
wasn't able to accept that confusion.
The teaching that Hatsumi Sensei
was transmitting to me was very
important. He was telling me to not
to be fixed to anything and to accept
change as a way of training. Clearly
he was advising me to search for the
medium, to not to go to any

extremes, to search for the

balance in every situation and even
when out of balance to be aware that
within that moment still exits the
equilibrium.
This is the kind of teachings of our
martial art. Sometimes we pass the
teachings as teachers and
sometimes we receive
them as students. In this
way there is a complete
process.

THE ESENCE
There is a poem that makes reference
to the teachings of Kukishin Ryu. This
poem from my point of view relates to
the essence, to the essential.

THE SACRIFICE
It is necessary to develop the capacity
to sacrifice your own balance in order
to defeat the opponent. There are
specific techniques in respect to this;
some of them are the techniques
kuruma, tomoe nage or yoko
nagare. In all of these techniques we
purposely and in our own accord throw
ourselves towards the ground to be
able to efficiently project the opponent.
On the other hand, we must use the
force of the opponent. This leads to
the idea of been able to use the
opponent's energy that is applied on
you in order to be able to defeat him.
The reality is that we take that power,

recycle it and then reverse it back to the

opponent.

THE ELIMINATION OF POWER

Lastly, the elimination of all strength
and unnecessary power when
applying any movement. This consists
in removing any type of unnecessary
force , looking for the correct angle,
precise timing and the adequate
distance in order to create a natural
flow. All these need to be achieved in
order to get to the no power
These three principles, the sacrifice,
the use of the opponent's strength and
the removing of all power in the
application of the technique are
essential to understand Kukishin Ryu
Happo Hiken; these could also be
applied in all the techniques of the rest
of the schools.
