ACTIVITY/WARM UP
Attention Getter: Hey miners! Cmon
and bring it in and form a big circle
around me. Make sure you have
some space around to move. We
need to get our body warm for
todays activities. Im going to lead
you through the warm up and
stretching so follow me!

ORIENTATION (includes
purpose)
Today kayaking is used as a
recreational activity and a
sport, but does anyone know
what it used to be used for?
(Transportation and hunting)
Today we are going to learn
the basic skills of kayaking
(psychomotor). You will learn
how to get in and out of a
kayak and be able to practice
some of the basic strokes.
Hopefully you learn a lot about
kayaking and think about going
out and trying it on the water
(affective).

FITNESS ACTIVITY

as we demonstrate how to get

can either straddle the kayak

and sit, then put your legs into
it, or if your getting into it from
a dock you can sit and put both
legs in at a time.
Now you will get into groups of
7 and go to a set of benches to
practice. There will be 4 people
at the benches, two practicing
and two holding the bench to
be safe. The other 3 students
will be doing crunches and
push-ups.

LESSON FOCUS/SKILL
BUILDING ACTIVITY;
6 stations; 6 different strokes.
Demonstrate all strokes before
students practice them. Now that
you all have learned how to get in
and out of the kayak we will
demonstrate the different strokes.
Psychomotor: Now we are going to
head on over to the stations. Get into
groups of 3 or 4. (3 groups of 3 and 3
groups of 4). We will demonstrate the
different strokes that you will do at
each station. You will now apply what
has been observed while practicing
at the stations using the kayaks.
Cognitive: At each station you have
a task sheet. Youll have to read the
directions on the task sheet. Be
aware of the cues that are on the
sheet while doing the activity. Two
partners will be going at a time,
practicing the skill. If there is a group
of 3, one student will stay and do an
exercise/activity.
Affective: You will be your partners
helper as you push them down the
court. Work together to practice these
skills and ask if you need help.

Psychomotor/Cognitive Can
anyone tell me what skills were
used today and what role do they
play while kayaking. What type of
fitness is required to take part in the
sport of kayaking? Can anyone tell
me what they learn today about
kayaking that did not now before
class today?

to debrief the class.

Affective: How did you and your

partner function when going
through a task? What type of skills
are needed in order to become a
successful kayaker? Where can
you enjoy the sport of kayaking?

Final Transition:
TSW help collect
equipment into
proper storage
areas.

Insight/Preview: Alright Miners,

everyone did a _____ job putting
your skills to work without ever
knowing anything about kayaking.
Tomorrow we will be meeting over
at Ascarate Park where we will be
putting our skills that were learn
today to the test.
