In the play Romeo and Juliet; a tragedy by William Shakespeare,
Tybalt Capulet is to blame for the deaths of Romeo and Juliet and
everyone else who dies in this play for three main reasons; He causes
much tension in between the families, He insisted on battling Romeo
even though it wasnt necessary, and he killed Mercutio. The long
lasting feud between the families Montague and Capulet wouldnt have
ended without Tybalt, but many people died in the process, because of
him. Which makes him to blame. People may think it was the families
fault for all the deaths because of theyre everlasting feud, but it was a
harmless feud, if Tybalt didnt go around killing Montagues, and
diminishing the peace. Tybalt caused many family uproars and is to
blame, not the feud. This essay will further explain why it is Tybalts
fault and not the families.
The first reason Tybalt is to blame is because he causes a lot of
tension between the families Capulet and Montague. Tybalt is a long
lasting hothead for Capulet, and hates the Montague family. What,
drawn, and talk of peace? I hate the word/ as I hate hell, all
Montagues, and thee. / Have at thee coward (1,1,67-69) this quote

shows his hate for all Montagues by comparing them to hell, for how
much he hates them. And his hate causes a lot of problems for his
family and definitely for the Montagues. This, by his voice, should be
a Montague. / Fetch me my rapier, boy. What! Dares the slave/ Come
hither, covered with an antic face, / to fleer and scorn at or
solemnity? / Now, by the stock and honor of my kin, / to strike him
dead I hold not a sin. (1,5,54-57) This quote shows how he would like
to kill the Montagues that show up at the Capulets ball if he had his
way. His blatant disrespect for the Capulet family is the first reason for
him to be blamed for all the deaths in this play.
The second reason Tybalt is to blame is he insisted on battling
Romeo. Romeo crashes the Capulets ball and Tybalt catches him, he
doesnt do anything because of Old Caplet, but Tybalt never let it go
and searches for revenge. This is another main cause; he wont let the
feud go for one night to enjoy the party. What, art thou drawn among
these heartless hinds? / Turn thee, Benvolio; look upon thy death.
(1,1,63-64) This quote shows that he is egging on the Capulets and is
basically looking for a fight. He is telling Benvolio that he is looking
upon his death. It fits when such a villain is a guest. / Ill not endure
him. (1,5,75-76) This quote shows how hes extremely angry when
Romeo and the other Montagues show up at the ball.
The third reason Tybalt is to blame is he killed Mercutio. Mercutio
was one of Romeos relatives in the Montague family and stood up for

Romeo when he would not fight Tybalt. Tybalt ended up killing

Mercutio, which made Romeo impulsively angry and empowered him to
kill Tybalt, Which caused Romeos banishment, and the fail of his newly
wed life to Juliet. Uncle, this is a Montague, our foe, / A villain, that is
hither come in spite/ to scorn our solemnity this night. (1,5,60-61)
This quote shows how angry and distraught that he is when the
Montagues show up at the ball and wants to start uproar to get them
out. Luckily Old Capulet interjects and holds him back from proceeding
with his plans. Romeo, the love I bear thee can afford/ No better term
than this: Thou art a villain.(3,1,58-59) This quote is when Tybalt is
about to fight Mercutio and he is telling Romeo that he is a villain. Little
does Tybalt know that now they are related because Romeo just
married Juliet.
Overall Tybalt is to blame for his disrespect of the Montague
family, the men he has killed, and his bloodthirsty nature. Tybalt is to
blame for the many deaths in this tragic play. This love story is
extremely tragic and it could have been prevented if Tybalt wasnt such
a bloodthirsty Capulet, and this essay has proved that.
