UWRT 1103 Daily Writings

#1 9-1-15
My mom is one of the biggest influences to my literacy narrative. She would sit with me and
make me practice reading and writing. My tenth and eleventh grade teachers also helped me
with my writing. After those classes my writing skills increased.

Sometimes the place you learn in could influence how you learn. The most significant place that
I learned to read and write in is school. Everyone learns to read and write in school. My tenth
grade year was one of my most improved years of writing. So my special place to read is in my
tenth grade classroom.

When I was in elementary and middle school, we would have a book fair every year. I remember
everyone would be really excited. It was a cool thing to do because they have all kinds of books
and other cool things you can. One book I remember getting at the book fair is diary of a wimpy
kid. I always liked those books. Book fairs always made reading exciting and fun.

I always remember my favorite book as a kid was Go Dog Go by P.D. Eastman. It was my
favorite book because it was about my favorite thing. The nook was about dogs driving racecars.
It went through a race with all of the dogs and taught lessons like: Slow and steady wins the race.

The first time I ever used a computer was at my house. Im not sure exactly how old I was, but I
remember not knowing what it did. The first thing my parents did was create email accounts for
everyone. So all I ever used the computer for was email for a long time. As I got older I got
more use out of it. I remember viewing power points in school long before I ever had to make
one. The first time I made one was in fifth grade. I wasnt familiar with the program so it was
pretty hard for me to make.

I dont think I have any huge connections with the characters in The Secret Life of Bees.
Something in the book that really interests me is the wailing wall. I am curious about this
technique and how it works. I would also want to research the cultural aspects of it and try to
find where is originated.

My family has always been pretty tight knit. We have always believed family is very important.
So, like many other people, we have family reunions every few years. I will never forget this
story. At a family reunion when I was ten years old, I was in the house getting food. Then I
went to make my way outside. When I tried to walk out the door I ran into the screen. I did not
realized that the screen door was shut and I walked right into it.

I learned about my great grandparents. I did not know who they were or even what their names
were. They died a very long time ago, so there is never any talk of them. I would like to learn
more about who they are and what they did in their lives.
#9 10-6-15
My family does not really cook unusual ethnic foods. But I love my mothers cooking. My
mom has always been a really good cook. My favorite meal is her buttermilk fried chicken. She
takes chicken tenderloins and seasons them. Then she cooks them in thee cast iron skillet on top
of the stove. This is my favorite thing she has ever cooked.

I like all of these quotes. The first one makes a pretty good point. Research is always taking
from things other people have found. I like how he says taking from one author is bad, but
taking from many is ok. The second quote shows that it is important to plan your research. The
third quote shows that in many cases, people research because they are curious or want to know
more about a topic.

I am struggling with a few things. It is hard to figure out exactly who is who, and if the info
about hem is correct. It is also hard to get a lot of info for the paper. I can only get so much info
from my relatives because not everyone remembers everything.
#12 10-22-15
Error free work can be important, it just depends on the type of work. If you are in math o
writing a research paper, error free work is important. In school, it is usually important to have
as few errors as possible. The more errors you make, the lower your grade will be. We have
always been taught that errors are bad and we should not make hem. I believe that sometimes
error free work is a good thing. You can learn by making mistakes.
#13 10-27-15
We have all had to write research papers over the years coming up through school. There are
many different techniques that can be use when researching a topic. I always try to break down
my topic into smaller subjects and find info on those various topics. It is important to not be
distracted while researching. It is very easy to procrastinate. I usually make sure my info is
valid by checking it to make sure it all matches up.

Sometimes depending on the group of people, peer review is unhelpful. But generally, it is very
helpful. I like peer review because it gives another perspective on my paper. Most of the time it
is very helpful and I also get good suggestions. I always try to fix grammatical errors on others
papers too. Peer review day only works when all members in the group are serious about it

We should care about what happened in Paris, France. It was another major tragedy. When
things like this happen, countries have to help each other out. If we only care about our own
country, the world will not end up good.

Since coming to UNCC, I have had to make a few tough decisions. I was not doing well in
chemistry. I had to decide whether to drop it or not. I also had to decide whether or not to drop
the lab class with it. I decided to drop chemistry but not the lab part, I think I made a good
decision by doing this. It will help my GPA because my lab grade is not bad.
