Re:

Request for Proposal Business Communication Project

Hot Dog on a Stick Sticking a Smile on ALL of Our Faces!

Overview: I propose to research ways of rebuilding employee spirit and work climate of a business that has lost
sight of their mission statement and focus due to bankruptcy and re-organization of the company. Identifying and
being prepared for the unfortunate will only educate us even more as business employees/owners.
Research Question: We need to gather information based off of personal employee experiences in order to
identify what motivates employees as well as what is different and not so motivating. What motivates Hot Dog on
a Stick employees to Stick a Smile on THEIR Faces?
Rationale: Surveying and relating to these particular employees will only further our knowledge in Primary
Research. It will allow us to feel more comfortable in an interviewing environment amongst people we may not so
well. Hot Dog on a Stick will benefit by identifying the current issues employees have involving the new ownership
and what steps need to be taken in order to improve every stores work environment.
Feasibility: Primary research will be the focus for the feasibility of this project. We will be interviewing old
employees as well as new, asking a range of questions to really get a feel for how the work environment used to
be verses how it is now. I also think it is extremely important to interview employees holding different rankings in
the company. To avoid any corporate conflict we will only be interviewing up to the Store Manager position.
Therefore, my two references will include employees/managers working in a mall location and
employees/managers in a drive thru location. Comparing the two different work environments will help justify our
research findings. Our mall location will include the Valley Fair store and our drive thru location will include the
West Jordan store. Valley Fair is managed by Stephanie/Cameron and West Jordan is managed by Cid/Jamie. All
four will be interviewed, as well as the employees within their particular store.

Materials / Methods: Surveys and interviews will be the most important methods used. Materials can/will include
a writing utensil and paper or computer. A tape recorder can also be a very handy tool. Most of all, an open ear

and mind is vital to really understand whats important to the employee and what is not. A variety of survey
respondents is important to get the most accurate answer to the problem.
Personnel: I have worked for HDOS Enterprises for just over 9 years now. My experiences and relations with
employees will make it easy to directly contact them and set up needed research. It is important to interview in a
personal, secluded environment. To be helpful, we will divide a team of 4 into two teams of 2. Each team of two
will be assigned the mall location or the drive thru location.
Time Frame:

Week 1 Formulate Groups and devise plans and responsibilities for each team member
Week 2 Create handouts and arrange employee meetings. (i.e. Surveys, Questionnaires, Interview
Questions)
Week 3 Gather information. Brainstorm possible resolutions to the problem at hand.
Week 4 Implement the resolution and analyze.
Week 5 Present findings to the rest of the class.

Hurdles: Road blocks may include but are not limited to the following.

Employee involvement
Organizing interview times
Compiling an effective and relatable questionnaire/survey
Communicating the importance of employee spirit and work climate to corporate managers
Ensuring that our solution to the problem is relevant and easily achieved
