Writing Prompt #9
When I held a conversation with one of my friends about the topic, it sort of ended up
being more of a question and answer type of conversation, but it did yield some useful
information. Naturally when people hear the word conspiracy theory, they either think some
crazy cross-eyed lunatic or shady activities by the government. I asked what they thought of
when I said conspiracy theories, and they brought up the moon landing, 9/11, aliens, and Bigfoot.
While there are conspiracy theories regarding the moon landing and 9/11, I did have to correct
them on the aliens and Bigfoot. Those topics are more of urban legends than conspiracy theories.
Aliens are a bit of a gray area due to Area 51, but for the most part they are typically urban
legends.
I also asked if they believed any conspiracy theories. They said that they didnt really
believe in any of the conspiracy theories, but they did say that hear about some of my research
on conspiracy theories did bring up some questions about the actual events. I agreed with them
on that point. While I have done quite extensive research on conspiracy theories, I dont
necessarily believe any of them. I also informed them of some of the far out conspiracy theories
that I had found such as the Vril (subterranean race of super humans dictating our actions) and
the Lizardmen (8 foot tall lizards that are capable of disguising themselves as humans and eat
humans) to which they laughed at. All in all, this is about the reaction I had expected.
