The Seven Wonders of the Modern World

The following list of Seven Wonders of the Modern World is


based on recommendations of the American Society of Civil
Engineers in 1994.
The Channel Tunnel:
The Channel Tunnel is a 50.5-kilometre rail-tunnel between
Folkestone, UK with Pas-de-Calais, France. It is the longest
rail-tunnel under the sea.
It was completed on May 6, 1994.
The CN Tower :
The CN Tower is a 1,815.4 ft concrete communications and
observation tower in Ontario, Canada. It is the world's tallest
free-standing structure.
It was completed on June 26, 1976.
The Empire State Building :
The Empire State Building is a 102-story skyscraper located
in New York City, USA. It 1,454 feet tall. It is the second
tallest building in the world after Burj Dubai.
It was completed on May 1, 1931

The Golden Gate Bridge:


The Golden Gate Bridge is a 4,200 feet long suspension
bridge
linking San Fransisco and Marin County, USA across the
Golden gate strait. It is the longest suspension bridge in the
world.
It was completed on May 27, 1937.
The Itaipu Dam :
The Itaipu Dam is a hydroelectric dam on the Paran River
located on the border between Brazil and Paraguay. The dam
is the largest international hydroelectric facility. It is 25,981

feet long.
It was completed on May 5, 1984.
The Delta Works:
The Delta Works of Netherlands is a collection of thirteen
dams and barriers that prevents a large area from flooding.
Using these the Delta was converted into a number of
freshwater lakes.
It was completed on May 10, 1997.
The Panama Canal :
The Panama Canal is a 77.1-kilometre canal connecting the
Atlantic Ocean and the Pacific Ocean via the Caribbean Sea .
The canal greatly reduces the time and hazards for ships
travelling between the two oceans.
It was completed on May 10, 1997.
