Psychomotor Skills Workshop

When I heard psychomotor skills workshop I expected a regular class using a
traditional method; a teacher, expert or professional talking and students writing,
which is the most boring way to learn, well, to memorise. Psychomotor is related with
movement and psychological processes, which is a very complicated topic that when
treated and investigated deeply, can change ones point of view of different things
After hearing that this workshop would take place in the gymnasium of our faculty,
the first idea I had was erased immediately with enthusiasm and positivism. If only I
had had the interest to get informed on what the workshop is about, this happiness
would have come earlier.
By asking questions in the previous moments of an activity, it increases the curiosity
and makes the students be eager to participate and figure out the answer to these
questions through the activity, and this is a method used to increase students
attention and help them to focus on the hidden objectives.
One of the points that helped the teacher of the workshop to connect with the
students or participants, was the single sentence at the beginning of the lesson; this
class is not completely planned, so I will develop it on the way. This I think made the
students think they were unique and worthy as the teacher would have to develop
the class at that moment.
Coordination and memorising are one of my weak points, as for me is almost
impossible to remember a movement or to do it at the same time as others. When
participating in the workshop, a part from having fun by moving your body at the
rythm of the teacher and trying to remember all of the movements, we were
practising our psychological skills as when trying to perform, it requires an integration
of related knowledges and values. So when I realised I was paying attention with all I
had to what was the teacher doing or saying and what my arms or legs had to do, I
realised that what that lesson was about was not about physical movement or
training, but about mental and movement control and practice.

Seminar B

Alas, it was not until the end of the class that the relation between this lesson and
the psychomotor skills were applied to the active context, a classroom. Someone
asked if the same kind of activities were done with either 6-7-year-old kids or 3-4year-old ones, and the teacher as an expert answered consciously that it was not his
field of study or work, but that when working with different ages a lot of changes
must be made, as the skills the children have developed are not the same in all the
stages; attention capacity, dominance and conscience of the own body, capacities
regarding memory and others are more limited in some ages than in others.
The workshop helped us to be aware of how important the psychomotor skills are
and how in any subject can be worked. Despite its educational aim, how enjoyable
the activity was is another fact to highlight.
