Pre-operational Stage REPORT 1

Name of child
Hareb

Age 5

Gender Male

Name of experiment 1 : Water experiment

Describe the basic procedure of the task (How it is
done)
1- Find the materials ( glasses water and food
coloring)
2- Prepare everything, and make sure that the child
can see everything.
3- Ask him does this glass has more water or this glass
has more water or do they have the same?
4- Pour the water from of the same glasses to a
different glass.
5- Ask him again if does this glass has more water or
this glass has more water or do they have the same?

Describe the childs responses

First when the two glasses were the same, he told me
that they have the same. Then I poured the water from
one glass to a thin glass, he said that the thinner glass
have more water than the other, because this glass is

taller.

What do the childs responses signify?

According to Piaget's theory, Hareb is still in the preoperational stage, because he doesn't know the right
answer. He thinks that the taller glass has more even
when I poured the water in front of him. The preoperational kids they only can see and think about the
things from one side, but that is normal for the kids form
2-7 years.

The two
glasses of
water with
the same
amount
I poured
the water
from one of
the glasses
to the taller
glass.

2- Put two biscuits in front of me and one biscuit in

3- Ask him if it's fair or not? And why??
4- Break his biscuit into half to have the same
number of the biscuit pieces.
5- Ask him if it's fair or not?? And why?

Describe the childs responses

First of all I put two biscuits in front of me and one
in front of him, and then I asked him if it's fair or
not? He said "of course it's not fair, because I have
only one piece and you have two". I took his biscuit
and break it into half, after that I asked him again if
it's fair or not??And why? He said "Yeah... Yeah it's
fair, because new I have two pieces like you.

What do the childs responses signify?

According to Piaget's theory, Hareb is still in the
pre-operational stage, because he understands
that when I break the biscuit into half that he has
the same number of pieces, but that is not true.

Piaget state that the kids from 2 to 7 cannot

understand and analyze the world around them, so
it's normal for a child about 4 years.

Put one
biscuit in
front of him
and two
biscuits in
front of me.

Break his
biscuit into
half, so we
will have the
same number
of the pieces.

4- Split one row in front of him and keep the other
one.
5- Ask him if this row have more dirhams or does
this row have more dirhams or do they have the
same? And why?

Describe the childs responses

When I put the dirhams in two rows equally he said
after he counted them that each row have 5
dirhams so they have the same. After that I
separated the dirhams in one row in front of him
and I asked again if they are same or not. He said
"no, this have more than the other one". "Why??"
He answered me, because this row is longer than
the other, so it will have more dirhams.

What do the childs responses signify?

According to Piaget's theory, Hareb is still in the
pre-operational stage, because he cannot
understand that when I separated the dirhams
they will still the same, but he thinks that if they
are separated the row will be longer so this row will
have more. That is normal for his age.

I made
two rows
with 10
dirhams.

Split one
row, and ask
him if they
are same or
not?

Pre-operational Stage REPORT 1

Name of child
Latifa

Age 9

Gender Female

Name of experiment 1 : Water experiment

Describe the basic procedure of the task (How it is
done)
1- Find the materials ( glasses water and food coloring)
2- Prepare everything, and make sure that the child can
see everything.
3- Ask her does this glass has more water or this glass has
more water or do they have the same?
4- Pour the water from one glass to a different glass.
5- Ask her again if this glass has more water or this glass
has more water or do they have the same?
Describe the childs responses
I put the two same glasses in front of her then I asked her
if they have the same amount of water or not? She said
yes they have the same amount. Then I poured the water
from one glass to a thin glass, after that I asked her the
same question, she told me that they also have the
same amount because when you poured the water in the
thinner glass only the water level raised, but the amount
is still the same.

What do the childs responses signify?

According to Piaget's theory, Latifa's brain is more
developed than Hareb. She can understand and analyze
the world around her, which means that she is in the
concrete operational stage, at this age the childs brain

can understand the world and they can think about the
things in different ways. Those kids in this stage are
about 7-11 years old.

The two
glasses of
water with
the same
amount

I poured
the water
from one
of the
glasses to
the taller
glass.

4- Break her biscuit into half to have the same
number of the biscuit pieces.
5- Ask him if it's fair or not?? And why?

Describe the childs responses

First I put two biscuits in front of me and one in
front of her, after that I asked her if it's fair or not
and why? She stated that it is not fair at all,
because I only have one biscuit and you have two
pieces. Then I break her biscuit into half and I
repeat my question, she said still it's not fair,
because I still have one biscuit even when you
break it to two pieces, we only have the same
number.

What do the childs responses signify?

According to Piaget's theory, Latifa is new in the
concrete operational stage. As girl about 9 years
old, she can think about this experiment in a

different way. She understands that when I break

the biscuit into half that it doesnt mean it's fair
even if we have the same number.

Put one
biscuit in
front of her
and two
biscuit in
front of me.

Break her
biscuit into
half, so we
will have the
same
number of
the pieces.

5- Ask her if this row has more dirhams or does this
row has more dirhams or are they the same? And
why?
Describe the childs responses
First I made two rows in front of her, and then I
asked her if this row have more dirhams or this row
have more or do they have the same? She counted

them then she said that they have the same

number. After I separated one row I asked her the
same question, she stated that they are still the
same, you only separated one row so the dirhams
are far away, but they still have the same number.
What do the childs responses signify?
According to Piaget's theory, Latifa is new in the
concrete operational stage. She knows that the
split row have the same number of dirhams, also
she understand that it's not important to have a
long row to say that this row have more. We can
say that she can understand the world around her
more than the kids in the pre-operational stage.

Split one
row, and
ask her if
they are
same or
not?

I made
two rows
with 10
dirhams.
