N479 Professional Activity Evaluation Form

Your Name: Paola Miramontes Date of Activity: 8/24/2015 Faculty name: Roxanne Moutafis
Professional Activity
The professional activity I attended was the Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support
(ACLS) class on August of 2015. The purpose of this activity was to expand my knowledge and
skills in the diagnosis and treatment of cardiopulmonary arrest, acute arrhythmia, stroke, and
acute coronary syndromes (ACS). Additionally, I strengthened the application of effective
resuscitation team dynamics and immediate post-cardiac arrest care. The goal of the course was
to improve outcomes for adult patients with cardiac arrest or other cardiopulmonary
emergencies through provider training.
This course strengthened my knowledge and skills learned from previous semesters
during my academic career at The University of Arizona College of Nursing. The new concepts
learned from this professional activity will enhance my role in the clinical setting as a new nurse.
I will be able to successfully play my role in the healthcare team and provide the most up to date
treatment to patients experiencing cardiopulmonary arrest.
Location and Length
The certification was obtained via the American Heart Association. The ACLS course
was located on Eclipse CPR Training premises in Tucson, AZ. The class ran for a total of six
hours. Before the class, we were required to purchase and read the ACLS manual and take a pretest. After the class, we were required to take a post-test to evaluate our knowledge. Overall, this
activity took me about 10 hours to complete.
Value of Experience
This experience proved to be extremely beneficial for three reasons. First, I was able to
sharpen the knowledge and skills learned from previous semesters at the College of Nursing. Not
only did it help review the material, it also taught me new concepts relating to different
medications and doses during an event of cardiac arrest. Second, this certification helped

strengthened my resume. When potential employers see this under my skills section, it will help
portray a person who is dedicated and willing to continue her education. Third, this activity has
helped me become more competent as a future nurse. I acquired new skills and concepts that will
be applied in cardiac arrest situations in the clinical setting. By taking this course, my patients
will benefit and I will be ready to provide the latest evidence-based care.
Future Recommendation
I highly recommend this professional activity to students because there are various
benefits to this activity. One benefit is that resumes will be stronger when presented with proof
of completion. Potential employers will see a nurse who is willing to continue his or her
education and skills. Second, the student will be able to strengthened his or her skills and become
more confident in the clinical setting. However, the greatest benefit will be experienced by our
patients in need. If the nurse knows what to do, the probability of a positive outcome will be
greater. This activity is highly recommended to all students, especially to those who envision
themselves working in the acute setting.
