Materials Required for this Class:

Recorders
Music for Hot Cross Buns
Piano accompaniment for Hot Cross Buns

Process: (In detail)

Opening
o The teacher will play Hot Cross Buns on the recorder poorly.
o The students will have to fix what the teacher just demonstrated.
Left hand at the top of the instrument, tongue each note,
blow softly, hold the half notes out for 2 beats, and cover the
holes the entire way with the fingers.
As specific students tell the teacher what was wrong, have
them demonstrate for the class.
Hot Cross Buns
o With the piano accompaniment, play Hot Cross Buns as a class.
Tell students to be aware of how they played.
o Play the accompaniment again, this time having students sing the
letter names of the notes on the sheet music (VISUAL)
o Play the accompaniment again, this time having students only
finger the holes on the recorder (KINESTHETIC)
o Play the accompaniment one last time, having students play on
their recorders (AURAL)
o Ask students to compare the two performances
Closure
o If students would like to attempt to earn their white belts, have them
come up in groups of three to play for the class.
