1 Thessalonians 3:12-4:2
The fraternal rela onship that existed among the Thessalonians led
Paul to turn his discourse into some sort of plea; however, this plea
included mandates and instruc ons, which although they came
from the apostle, were not given by him but in the name of the
Lord Jesus. The essence behind the moral instruc ons that Paul
gave is that Gods will is they become holy, implying a process of
personal and community transforma on, adhering to the
Chris an conduct they already knew.
Our Culture
Advent can o en turn into a chao c and stressful me as we carry
out the prepara ons for Christmas. For Hispanics, however, there
are various celebra ons that help to reflect on the meaning of the
me that leads up to Christmas: the celebra on of the novena of
Guadalupe and the Posadas or Christmas novena that many people
celebrate.
Homily Reflecon
There are mes when visitors arrive without giving us prior no ce and when this occurs
we drop everything to tend to them. But when they give us prior no ce we go out of our
way to prepare for their visit, we go shopping, plan, clean the house, and think about
the food we are going to prepare and serve our guests. These are ac ons that demonstrate caring and kindness for the visitors we are expec ng. They are expressions of our
hospitality. Today we begin the season of Advent, in other words, of wai ng for the
coming of the Lord. Surely we get the house ready, hang up our Christmas decora on,
bring out the Na vity set and tree, and carry out all the tradi onal prepara ons. Yet we
know it is not enough to wait for the Lord, because the readings say these are extraordinary signs and the coming of the end of mes. How does one prepare for this? Surely not
with material ac ons. The reading of Paul to the Thessalonians provides a clue as to
what can be done: be compassionate with one another, make love grow between us,
become holy and do good un l the day of his coming. Then you will be willing to receive
him as King and Lord, by prac cing the deeds of his kingdom.
For Reflecon
What can I do in my surroundings to prepare for the coming of the Lord? Am I simply
sa sfied with all the external prepara ons? How do I improve my rela onships with
others?

preparacin para el Jubileo. Jeremas nos consuela con la promesa de la justicia de Dios;

As como nosotros
Feliz Navidad! Tmese su tiempo para observar el Adviento. Tal vez usted podra decir:
Feliz Adviento! aunque no sean catlicos (y
algunos catlicos tambin) podran verte extrao.
No

siendo el some miento pacfico.
encarnacin de Jess, some do a la naturaleza y limitacin

Family Advancement
Ministries needs your
help!
As the weather gets cooler, the
families we serve need warm clothes for
their young children. We would appreciate dona ons of boys
clothes, sizes 12 months to size 10; and girls clothes, size 2
through size 8. We are especially in need of pants for boys (and
girls too).
If you do not have gently used clothes to donate and
would like to help otherwise, we suggest diapers sizes 4 and 5
and pull ups. Thank you for helping those in our community who
need our assistance.
