Brief Summary of The Book of Proverbs

The first verse of Proverbs gives the right to Solomon’s authorship for the
book but it is probable that he collected many of them from multiple sources. The
last two chapters were probably written by two men named Agur and Lemuel.
(30:1; 31:1) There is also a possibility that certain sections were written by a
school of savants known as “the wise.”

A proverb is an independent meaningful expression, with no relation to

context. The book of Proverbs cover a variety of subjects, for example, chastity,
control of the tongue, laziness, knowledge, relations with others, justice. Perhaps
above everything else in Proverbs there is the repeated assertion that the source
of true wisdom is "the fear of the Lord".

The many sayings of Proverbs all contribute to the full, rich life of a true
redeemed follower of God. Each Proverb deserves a thoughtful study and careful
meditation.
