UNIT/CHAPTER OBJECTIVE/GENERALIZATION/BIG IDEA:

The Group Culture Project lesson plan is part of a unit plan on the different cultures of North and South America. This
lesson is intended to teach students about the basics of what makes up culture.

LESSON OBJECTIVE:

Given the proper instructions and tools, TSW work in a group to prepare a PowerPoint presentation about the
culture of their assigned region in the U.S., or country in South America with 80% accuracy.
TSW fill out their KWL chart with information related to their knowledge about the culture of their assigned
region of the U.S., or country in South America with 80% accuracy.

BACKGROUND and RATIONALE:


The primary concept of this lesson is to teach the students how cultures from different parts of the world can
relate to each other through their unique differences.
Academic Language is not addressed in IDT 3600.
The students will go more in-depth about the concept of culture on a broader range than just limiting to a single
country or region in future lessons.
I am aware that the lesson will be differentiated for students who did not master the objectives and
for those ready for enrichment. However, modifications are not covered in this course and are not
part of this particular lesson.
PROCEDURES AND TIMELINE:
Introduction (30 minutes)

TTW begin the lesson by having a whole-class discussion with the class about what culture is.
TTW show a PowerPoint going into depth of what culture consists of and what is considered culture.
TTW explain to the students what is expected to be done for the Group Culture Project.
TTW divide the students into groups and tell the students what their choices are when it comes to what
the regions/countries are.
TTW give the students their own KWL charts that they are expected to complete through the entirety of
the lesson and turn in at the end.

Procedures

Day 1 (45 minutes)


The groups will decide on what country/region their projects will be about.
The students within the groups will designate who they want to be the person that makes the
PowerPoint.
TTW bring the class to the computer lab so the students can start their research on the

project.
This is what the rest of the class time will be dedicated to.
TSW write down any information that they can use for their presentation in their
notebooks.

TTW observe the groups to make sure that everyone is putting in a sufficient amount of effort and
work into their projects, assist the students whenever help is needed
Day 2 (1 hour and 15 minutes)
The students will continue working on their projects in the computer lab.
TTW continue to observe the groups and assist the students whenever help is needed.
Day 3 (1 hour)
TSW spend the first 20 to put the finishes touches to their PowerPoints.
After the PowerPoints are finished, TSW go back to the classroom and the groups will then
present their presentations to the class.

Closure (15 minutes)

TTW engage the class with a whole-class discussion about they have learned as a result of this group
project.
TSW also come up with things that are different as well as similar between the cultures they researched
and their own culture.
TSW turn in their KWL charts to the teacher.

ASSESSMENT EVIDENCE:

The students will be assessed through teacher observation.

MODIFICATIONS:
I am aware that modifications will be made for students who did not master the objectives and for those
ready for enrichment. However, modifications are not covered in this course and are not part of this
particular lesson.
