Ms.Gallardo,
The organization that I will be applying my effort to expand my knowledge
towards my topic is the El Paso Police Department (EPPD). Reason for my
choice of organization is that if I will be researching and informing my peers
about police brutality, I should start with an organization where it affects my
everyday life. The El Paso Police Department states that their main mission
on the daily basis is to keep the community safe so that citizens live calm.
The El Paso Police Department is a pretty big part of my job discourse
community. The reason why they are such a big part of this discourse
community is because there is always police at the Chihuahua stadium
making sure that there is no fights, riots, or possible threats to this family
environment. Although there is police that take advantage of citizens rights,
there is also police who really are there to protect the environment. For
example, police who guard schools, hospitals, public stores, and even local
neighborhoods put their lives on the line every day because you never know
what type of situation may occur to harm the community. I believe that the
El Paso Police Department does a fair job of keeping the community and our
own rights safe. Although it may seem bad when you are receiving a ticket,
that officer is making sure that we follow the law and the standards for
safety reasons.
The communication practices the El Paso Police Department may use are
their radios and there computers. These practices are important because
that way if a criminal gets away, they can communicate with different
officers to try and locate the criminal. Another reason why these
communication practices are important is because these officers may need
back-up and this way you they can call other officers to report to the scene
and help out with the conflict. Another form of communication an officer
may use is the communication with other citizens. These may be the
practices of explaining their right while arresting someone or the

communication with someone step-by-step to avoid any other conflicts and to

avoid harm to anybodys life.
I hope this explain a little on how the police department tries to have a
safety first perspective. I also hope that cooperating with an officer is a big
factor on police brutality. Sometimes because you arent cooperating and
you resist, they will take advantage of your rights.
