He would wake up for Tahajjud (predawn prayers) with his parents and would go on reciting Quranic verses (and pondering over their meaning) for long hours. His father, one day, came to him while he was engrossed in Quran and counselled, “Dear Son! Whenever you recite the Quran, do so as if it has been revealed unto you. You will soon realise that Quran has opened itself to you and permeated your whole character.” Iqbal thankfully and sincerely abided by his father’s counsel till his last breath. His contemplations over Quran gave him tremendous insight on what was wrong with the world and opened up new vistas for renovation and rejuvenation of the same. He conveyed the wisdom thus acquired through the profound medium of poetry. Zhan Yar
