ASSIGNMENT No. 2 last date for submission: 19.10.

2015
The following questions are in addition to the four questions given in the classroom for problem solving.
1. There are 3 machines, each with its own start / stop buttons. Only one may run at a time.
Construct a circuit with appropriate latching function.
2. There are 3 machines, each with its own start / stop buttons. Any two may run at a time.
Any one may run by itself. Construct a circuit with appropriate interlocking.
3. A milling machine (A) and its lubrication pump (B) both has individual start / stop buttons.
B must run before A and if B stops, A must also stop.
4. There are 3 machines A, B, C in a processing line. After the process begins mixture A is to
start after 7 sec elapsed. Next mixture B is to start 3.6 sec after A. C is to start 5 sec after
B. All then remain on until the master enable switch is turned off.
5. A wood saw W, a fan F, and a lubrication pump P, all goes on when a start button is pushed.
A stop button stops the saw only. The fan is to run an additional 5 seconds to blow the
chips away. The lube pump is to run for 8 seconds after shutdown of W. Additionally, if
the saw has run more than one minute, the fan should stay on indefinitely. Pushing a
separate fan reset button may then turn off the fan. If the saw has run less than one minute,
the pump should go off when the saw is turned off. The 8 seconds time delay off does not
take place for a running time of less than one minute.
6. An auditorium consists of two entrances and one exit. Twenty seats are placed inside that
and both the entrances can allow the first 20 entries. After 20 entries both the doors shall
be closed automatically with a siren sounds for 5 seconds. If there is an exit, then entrance
A may be open and B remains closed. An indicating lamp will glow to indicate the door
opening. A reset switch reset all the system at any time.
