Vocabulary

Anarchy- noun- lawlessness; absence of government. After the little


boy was killed, there was total anarchy
Antithesis- noun- the opposite. He behaved the antithesis of good
Apathetic- adjective- showing little or no emotion. After the baseball
game, the fans showed an apathetic behavior
Apex- noun- the tip. He reached the apex of the mountain
Apocryphal- adjective- doubtful in authenticity. Ismael said an
apocryphal speech about food
Ardor-noun- enthusiasm or passion. The sudden ardor kept him up all
night
Articulate-adjective-able to express ideas clearly and effectively in
speech or writing. He was very articulate about his lunch
Aspire-verb-to want or achieve something. He aspired her to reach her
goals
Assimilate-verb- to learn. He assimilated how to eat pancakes
Assuage- to make less painful. Derek assuaged his cut, after he fell
Astute-adjective-having or showing ability to notice and understand
things clearly. Im an astute listener, when it comes to math
Atrocity-noun-very bad. His cavities were atrocious and in bad shape
Audacious- adjective-very confident and daring. He acted very
audacious when he finished his test
Avert-verb-to turn away. He averted from his parents
Avid-adjective-very eager. Jacob was avid when he was about to meet
the new kid
Avuncular-adjective-like an uncle. My friend is very avuncular, when it
comes to parenting
Awry- adverb- not working correctly. Tonys machine started to go awry
when he turned it on
Banter-verb- to speak. The teacher bantered peacefully and calmly
Barter-verb- to exchange. To trade is called barter.
