Squash
Squash was originated by the late
Percy Abbott and is known as the
trick that built the Abbott Magic
Company. A shot glass containing
any kind of liquid is seen in full view
on the palm of one hand. The other
hand covers the glass and the hands
are squeezed together. When the hands
separate the glass of liquid has vanished and
both hands are empty.
The same glass (not a duplicate) is produced from
behind the performers knee (or from anywhere else)
and the effect is repeated! There is no get-ready or
preparation. Another presentation is to have the glass
setting on a table - slap the glass - clap your hands - and
the glass and its contents are gone!
Originated by Percy Abbott and first manufactured and sold
in 1935, over the years Squash has proven to be a sensation
among magicians and laymen alike. Often copied - it
has never been equalled! This
is our own! You can perform this
two feet from the audience and still
fool them! And, you can work it five minutes after
you receive it!
Close-up 103
This is a two cupone ball routine. Your spectators will find the effect easy to follow as
one ball penetrates, vanishes, appears and transposes. For a finale, three huge balls
appear! To create these effects some new and ingenious moves and dodges had to be
invented. All of these are exceptionally easy and all are amazingly magical. These
include: The Cenotaph Illusion which teaches you how to show two cups empty when
they are not. The Whoops Movethe vanish of a ball which uses neither gimmicks nor
sleight of hand. The Throwback Techniqueso simple youll wonder why nobody ever
thought of it before. The Shameful Vanishso named because its so easy.
This is magic of the highest order. A brilliant and tightly constructed routine. At no
time do you ever have an extra ball secretly palmed. At no time do you ever have to
perform a false transfer from hand to hand. This routine runs approximately three
minutes. The book contains complete text and seventy-five photographic illustrations.
This is a prize-winning routine from the act of a professional magician, Gary Ouellet. It
just might be what you have been looking for, as well.
This neatly printed booklet, by Laurie L. Ireland, is well illustrated and describes a surprising routine. Large sponge balls are used with the set of cups and, after many
changes, surprises and climaxes, the balls used all disappear! In their place, appearing
under the cups, are three real oranges! The moves, sleights and routining in this booklet
are all highly original and well worth your study time.
CHOP CUP
The Chop Cup (from
Morrissey Magic)
measures three inches
in height and is three
inches in diameter (at the open mouth of the cup). It is made
from aluminum and is provided in a highly polished, smooth
finish. It comes with a set of crocheted balls and a clear and
concise routine.
The Chop Cup is mechanical in working, which allows you to present a one cup and one
ball routine which looks like difficult sleight of hand, but which is very easy to perform.
(And, while supplies last, each Chop Cup purchased from Abbotts will be accompanied
by a copy of Chop Chops original illustrated instructions.)
MENTAL CHOICE
This is, without a doubt, one of the greatest,
sure-fire close-up tricks in the world! Show
it to anybody and when its over ... be prepared to pick them up off the floor! They
will be stunned! Theyll ask you to repeat it
... but dont ... tell them that you only perform miracles once a day!
Three pieces of colored cardboard are placed
on the table. They are red, blue and yellow.
The spectator is asked to indicate one of the
colors by dropping a ballpoint pen on any
one card. The two cards which he did not choose are discarded and the performer then
reveals that he knew, by an advanced prediction, which color the spectator would choose!
This is most mysterious and you cant fail.
The Wunderbar
A small, metallic rod is seen inside a glass test
tube which is sealed with a cork. Suddenly, the
rod begins to move up and down, furiously.
Soon, it pushes the cork out and jumps out of
the tubebobbing up and down between the
hands. It floats from one hand to another in a
straight line. The hands are still throughout the
routine. No strings to buttons or hands. No magnets.
This can be performed surrounded and close-up under any lighting conditions. If you
wish, everything may be examined after the routine. A Steve Dusheck creation.
Gravity Glasses
A borrowed handkerchief is wrapped around
a borrowed book. First, one glass is placed
on the book and the book and glass are
turned over and the glass clings to the book.
Next, two glasses are used and they both,
also, cling to the upturned book. Then, three
glasses are used, with the same result. At
the performers command, the glasses drop
free of the book into his own or the
spectators hand. All the borrowed items are
then returned to their owners.
Close-up 107
Pocket Cubio
A two-in-one pocket trick! A small brass cube has different
colored ring designs on its six sides. The cube also has a cord
running through it, as illustrated. The cube slides back and forth
on the cord but stops anywhere on the cord at your command.
The spots also change color, from side to side, in most tantalizing manner. It may be passed for rigid examination and may
then be repeated.
Wonder Blocks
Three round blocks are placed into a tube in the following
order: blue, white and red. When the tube is lifted, the
order of the blocks is red, blue and white. This is repeated
with similar results. One block is placed into the pocket. It
reappears between the other two blocks within the tube.

DISSOLVO
A length of cord (or ribbon) is securely tied at its
ends, making an endless circle. A small plastic ring
is examined and then threaded over the cord. Remember, the ring is on the outside of the knotted
loop. The ring stops and starts its sliding motion on
command. For the big surprisethe ring passes
through one of the double cords and is imprisoned
on the endless loop. The spectator must untie the
knots to remove the ring. All may be examined.
There are no fakes of any kind and this is easy to do.
Complete with ring, cord and illustrated instructions. Created by Harry Louine.
SALT-GO
In our opinion, this is the best vanish and reproduction for
salt ever conceived. The audience sees a salt shaker and two
empty hands. The shaker cap is removed and the contents of
the shaker are visibly poured into the hand. The empty shaker
(and the empty hand) are shown. The salt vanishesevery
grain! For a finale the salt may be reproduced and poured
from hand to hand. This effect is self-contained and is easy to
do.

TROUBLEWIT
With the multi-folding
fan you have, with a
mere twist of your fingers, entertainment. You
can fold and refold this paper fan into a series of
interesting shapes and objects such as lamps,
bonnets, urns, windmills, rosettes, vases, etc.
Trouble-Wit paper folding is a great interlude in any
type of magic act. This new size, just 5 1/2" long
and 3/4" thick when folded, is just right for closeup. There is no hard practice involved with this
model, which includes an illustrated routine with
patter presentation for more than twenty designs.
Close-Up Pad
Every magician performing close-up magic
should have one of these. It makes for an easier
performance and gives a prestige look to your
work. Made by Gibson, from sponge rubber with a
black velveteen working surface. Size is 12 inches by 16 inches.
MEDAL-LIONS
Four gold color plastic medallions (MEDAL-LIONS) are displayed. Two have a red lions
face embossed upon them; the other two have a green lions face. In a four-phase routine, the red lions change places with the green lionsunder seemingly impossible
conditions. At the conclusion, everything is handed for examination. No skill required.
No sleight-of-hand. Attractive and easy to handle props. Perfect when children are at the
close-up or restaurant table. Complete with a beautifully illustrated instruction booklet.
Created by Marcelo Contento.
Ball Vase
This is the improved model of this standard pocket
trick. It is larger than the original and is made of
plastic. A ball, taken from the vase, passes back into
the vase, and vice versa. Or, the ball leaves the vase
and penetrates through the table. An easy to do trick.
Close-up 111
JUMPING GEMS
Two black plexiglass rods are shown to be clean and unprepared on both sides. Suddenly, a diamond-like gem appears on the end of one rodthen it multiplies to two
then the gems jump from one rod to the other. Just when they think they know what
will happen nextthe color of the gem changes to ruby-red. Always ready. Easy to
carry. A real sparkler of a trick. The regular size model is 3 1/2" long. The jumbo size
model is 4 1/2" long. Please specify when ordering. By Ken Allen.
FLASH ROD
This is the perfect surprise finish for the Jumping Gems effect. After performing the
standard routine, the performer ask the spectator if he knows which end of the rod has
the white gem stone. No matter which way he guessesthe rod is shown covered, from
end to end, with diamond-like gemson both sides of the rod! An easy to do kicker.
Available in regular or jumbo sizes, to match the Jumping Gems effect. Please specify
when ordering.
HAUNTED HANK
The magician rolls up his sleeves, takes out a pocket
handkerchief and, holding it away from the body at all
times, and without adding anything or taking anything
away, the hank stands up straight, shoots over to one side
and then to the other. Its alive! It jumps! Its ticklish!
Its acrobatic! There are no threadsno wiresno
practiceno worry. This is self-contained and practically
works itself. It defies detection and is a clean cut effect.
A hoop is passed over the hank in all directions. It is
crushed in the hands and it immediately shoots up and
stands straight again. Tickle it and it squirms. Place it
into a hat and it leaps out over the edge or high into the air. Again it stands upright or
takes a bow towards the audience. Without stealing anything away you can immediately
pass it out for thorough examination. Complete with handkerchief and illustrated
instructions.
DOTS IMPOSSIBLE
Six cards, bearing large colored spots, are placed face down onto the table. A spectator
freely chooses any card. When he turns over his card it bears a red spot. The other five
cards are turned over and they each bear a black spot. No matter which card the spectator selects his spot is always the odd spot. This is not just coincidence but a sure-fire
effect. Created by Al Cohen.
MAGIC FLAVORS
Five cards are shown. Each card has the same
back design. The face of each card is printed in
the form of a bottle label. Each label has a cute
comment that is good for a laugh. After the cards
have been examined, they are mixed and the
spectator retains one card. He holds this card face
down on his hand. The performer touches the
back of this card and brings his finger to his lips
in a tasting gesture. He then correctly names the
chosen card. This effect may be repeated indefinitely. The cards may be examined at any time.
Here is a close-up effect that packs a punch.

packet of matches. Included are novel productions, amazing vanishes, etc. You are sure to find many unusual effects within the
pages of Between Cocktails. Entertaining impromptu effects just
right for intimate performances. Perfect for the lover of simple
sleights. This soft cover booklet by Sid Fleischman has 32 printed

IN-N-OUTER-BOX
A small red plastic box, 2" x 2 1/4", is displayed.
Inside this box is seen a white plastic box. The white
box is removed and the top and bottom of the red box
are placed back together. The top and bottom of the
white box are separatedthe red box is placed inside
the white boxand the cover of the white box is
replaced! Thats right! The red box which contained
the white box is now inside the white box! Two objects
prove to be the same exact size, yet either fits inside of
the other! This is hilarious and confusing and mind
bending and laugh provoking.
Magic Mummy
This strange mummy will lie in his casket for you but when a
spectator tries it the mummy jumps right out of the casket. Try
as they willits beyond their control. This current plastic model
is the best made.
HOT ROD
A black plastic rod, four inches long, is shown on both sides. It contains six different
colored gems stones set into its surface. A spectator is asked to call out any number
from one to six, including those two numbers. That number is counted to on the rod
and the freely selected color is noted. In a flash, all the gem stones change to match the
selected color! And, on both sides of the rod! A gem of a trick! Easy to do.
MATCHLESS MATCHBOXES
Matchless Matchboxes from Royal Magic
(by arrangement with Magic Inc.) is
available again! It is a close-up classic!
Two matchboxes are displayed. When
the open drawer of one box is pushed
closedthe closed drawer of the other
box slides open! This becomes even
more bewildering as the boxes are placed
end to end, side to side, end to side, are
separated by a playing card and, finally,
are held separated between the fingertips. Still the matchboxes misbehave! Complete with well routined instructions and two
high-quality, long-lasting plastic matchboxes.
BUSINESS MERGER...
Doug Bennett presents a close-up miracle which transforms your business card into a
magical souvenir which people will keep and talk about for a long, long time! In the
process of removing a business card from a small wallet you discover that it is your last
one. Not wanting to sound cheap, you explain that you can only afford to give away your
last card piece by piece, one piece at a time. A large piece is now visibly torn from the
card and given to the spectator. Realizing, too late, that a remnant of a card is virtually
worthless, you take back the torn piece and cause it visibly to merge with the torn card!
The perfectly restored business card is now given away as a tangible reminder of your
magical talents ... a souvenir that could very well mean future bookings.
Only one card is used! If you wishit could be signed! The torn card is shown openly,
with the piece missing, right up till the very moment of the visual restoration! You
receive the business card wallet and detailed instructions for performing with your own
business card. In addition, a bonus routine is included wherein the same effect is
accomplished with a signed playing card!
Close-up 117
BOMB SCARE
This great idea, from Bob King, is a needle through the balloon effect for the close-up
and walkaround performerwith no get-ready! The supplied balloons look like hand
grenades(!) which lends nicely to the patter line about pulling the pin! The five-inch
needle supplied is housed in a special ballpoint pen. This protects the needle (and
provides the necessary lubricant, too). Complete with all props and instructionsso
noveland so logical.
Ultra-Light
Imagine walking into someones home and asking them to hand you any lightbulb. You
screw this bulb into your hand (socket fashion) and the bulb lights up! Blow out the
light, unscrew the bulb and hand it back and your hands are empty. Completely selfcontained. Complete, from Bob King, with everything youll ever need except that
borrowed light bulb!
TEL - A - COLOR
Five colored cardsred, blue, yellow, green, blackare displayed and may be examined.
They are the same color on both sides and are otherwise blankthere are no secret
markings. The performer turns his back and the spectator reverses one of the cards and
remembers the color of this card. Without asking a single question and without any
moves of any kindthe performer correctly names the selected color!
In the second presentation, the spectator selects a color and seals all the cards in unprepared envelopes. The magician still picks out the envelope containing the proper color.
For a third presentation, the cards are placed in a row and while your back is turned the
spectator turns over one cardand you name it. The cards supplied are not tapered.
There is no rough and smooth principle used. Each card is exactly like the other cards
except that it is a different color. There are no fakes, no gimmicks and no exchanges.
This could be your greatest close-up effecta mind bender for any audience.
BLINK
A penny is placed between the folds of a folding coin holder. The coin
can be seen through the transparent cellophane windows. As quick as
a wink the coin vanishes! No pulls! No threads! No wires! No mirrors! Its fantastic and if you blink youll miss it!
Vision Tester
The performer tests a spectators vision! This proves to be
laughable, for during the demonstration the spectator sees
words upside down, right side up, wrong side up and finds
words changing and turning in a most confusing manner.
Its very funny and most baffling and the spectator has no
idea as to how it all happens. Supplied complete with
printed testing cards and special viewing lens. All the props
may be examined. Dont pass up this most unusual trick.
Close-up 119
PRETTY SNEAKY
One of Chicagos top close-up performers gives you his very commercial
routines, written in his own refreshing style. A graduate of the Chavez
school, Don Alan worked as a magic bartender for years, followed by his
own T.V. show and later a long association with T.V.s Magic Castle. In
this book you get the full benefit of his experience48 printed and
illustrated pages of close-up tricks with cards, balls, coins, a ball point
pen, pins, flash string, a lump of coal(?) and various other items. Each
of these tricks has proven successful before an audience before finding
its way into this book!
WANNA BET?
Compiled by Frances Marshall, this is a lively and interestcompelling collection of little known ideasoften referred to as
betchas! I bet you a drink you cant do so and so ... Like
pushing a quarter through a dime-size hole. You may know
that stunt but there are dozens here that are fresh and different
which will get your spectators really involved with your challenge. Great for bars, lunch tables, offices, coffee breaks,
parties, hospitality suites, young peoples affairs, etc. Although
you introduce them as impromptu stunts, you actually have a
set program in mind for the best results. These amusing little
gags can make you the life of the party! Avoid the dull moments with the seventy-five
betchas in this book.
CLOSE - UP TIME
They rave about the fresh new approach of Alan magic. Here is a
group of his close-up tricks: Flash Production Sponge Ball Trick,
Riffle Time Force, Subtle One Way Deck, Keep Your I On Your Hat,
Wax in Matchbox, Inflation Pencil, Card in Egg, Bread Sandwich, Bill
in Orange, Stuck Up Card. A printed and illustrated booklet with
comments by Bert Allerton and Ballantine.

HOLD - OUT
The late Jack Miller created miracles with his Hold-Out. We now stock a deluxe model
of this utility device. This model is smaller in size and smoother in operation than
previous devices. It comes complete with all attachments and gimmicks, plus a brief set
of instructions. We recommend the book Hold-Out Miracles in conjunction with this
unique miracle device.
Out to Lunch
The performer shows a card with a sketch of a Hindu boy climbing a
rope. He asks a spectator to initial this card, both on the front and
on the back. Later, when the card is turned over the boy on the card
has vanished and in his place is a sign, printed on the card, reading
Out To Lunch. Note: The spectators initials are still in place and
the card may be given as a souvenir. This effect may be easily
adapted to work with your business cards.
Color Vision
A small plastic box with a lid and a plastic block are shown. The
block has a different color on each of its six sides. A spectator
places the block into the box with his chosen color uppermost and
covers the box with the lid. This is handed to the performer who
has his back turned to this operation. The magician turns around
to face the spectator and almost immediately names the chosen
color correctly. This is self-containedno magnetsno sliding weightsmay be instantly repeated. Both box, lid and cube are ungimmicked.
Close-up 123
BACK AGAIN
An effective close-up routine using ordinary objects, such as a ring, a coin and a cigarette. The coin and the cigarette are openly placed into the left hand, which is closed and
the ring is placed into the right pocket. The left hand is opened and the ring is now with
the other two objects. This is repeated with the cigarette being the object being placed
into the pocket. Again all three objects appear in the hand. The third time the coin is
placed into the pocket. When the left hand is now opened the three objects have vanished and a handfull of half dollars pour out in their place! A startling climax to a mystifying effect! By Eddie Joseph.
Phantosphere
This trick can be done anywhere! Easy to do! Mystifying!
A real thriller! You place a solid glass sphere (a marble) on
a flat surface and cover this with an unprepared handkerchief. This hank is continually folded over the marble
which is constantly tapped to prove it is positively under the
hank. Both hands are shown emptya corner of the hank
is grasped and the hank is snapped in the air and shaken.
The marble has vanished and reappears between the
performers lips! A startling climax!
Close-up 125
TABLE HOPPING
Of Table Hopping, Sid Lorraine says, It contains a wealth of information about a field
in which he (Bruce Posgate) has participated for a number of years. It is a field in which
he presents magic and novelties for the amusement of restaurant patrons, as he moves
from table to table. Get in on this fast growing area of show business by buying and
using the material from this slender volume. Illustrated.
Multiplying Rabbits
Two sponge rubber rabbits are shown the Momma and
the Poppa. They vanish and reappear in both the
magicians and the spectators hands. They are both
placed in the assistants hands where they multiply
producing a whole family of little sponge baby rabbits! A
terrific close-up interlude! Recommended!
A Box of Matches
While seated at a table, the magician causes a match to
cling to his fingertips. This match is placed back into the
match box and the box immediately goes into action. It
crawls away from the performer, stops, turns and comes
back. It then stands itself on end. A super baffler which
can be done completely surrounded.
Einsteins Theory
A clever mathematical novelty based on a question supposedly given to Einstein, Who will go to heaven first
Republicans, Democrats or Socialists? A circle is drawn
and divided. Numbers are called out to represent each of
the three groups. A series of simple calculations show
which group will go to heaven first. No memorizing, easy
to do. In manuscript form easily adaptable to other patter stories.
Giant Sponge
One small sponge held by a spectator multiplies to two.
The sponges vanish and reappear. Three sponges placed in
a hand vanish and to the surprise of the spectators a giant
sponge four inches in diameter pops out of the hand.
All sponges are supplied. The routine eliminates skill.
Wetterette .
Here is the traditional Pea Can effect made up in a more
durable and a larger size. Abbotts Wetterette is well
made in brass and contains a number of routines in its
instructions. For instance, a number of marked dimes
are placed in the container. They disappear and are
produced from a previously shown empty handkerchief.
When the spectator looks for the dimes in the container,
his hand is covered with water. Also included is a cocktail
effect, dimes to pennies, a cigarette vanish and the original pea can routine.
Close-up 127
IMPACT
This is a spiral bound, soft cover book. It contains one hundred and forty-five pages and
dozens of illustrations. Included are fifty-nine routines: Four with rope, thirty-three
with cards, seven with coins, three dealing with Cups & Balls, three routines with The
Linking Rings, three routines with ropes and rings and six comedy items. There is
something inside here for everyonefrom stage worker to close-up performer. A terrific
collection. Written by Aldo Colombini.
REACT
And here is the latesta new book from Aldo. Included are forty new effectsnone of
which are duplicated in any of his other books. Clever material ... clever thinking ... and
nothing that is technically difficult. More than one hundred pages to describe magic
with cards, coins, ropes, balloons, thimbles, etc. A well-illustrated, plastic spiral bound,
softcover book. Recommended for all Aldo Colombini fansand those who will become
his fans.
BUDDHA PAPERS
A small object is placed in the center of the smallest of a
series of folded papers. These papers are folded, one at a
time, within each other. When unfolded, the object has
vanished or changed to something else. Dollar bills
change to coins, a penny changes to a dime, a blank piece
of paper changes to a dollar, etc.
DOTS INCREDIBLE
Three cards with black spots and three cards with red spots are shown. One black is
mixed with two reds and one red is mixed with two blacks. With no tricky moves the
black spot returns to the black cards and vice versa for the red spots. Two cards are
eliminated and the effect is repeated with the four cards, successfully. For a finale, the
effect is repeated with only two cards. Easy to do and a real winner! By Al Cohen.
Sponge
A spectator holds one sponge ball in his hand. You place
a second sponge in your pocket. This sponge passes into
the spectators hand - he now has two. This may be
repeated again and again. Comes complete with all
necessary sponge balls and the routine.
Close-up 129
Hole Collection
The performer describes the strange hobby
of Dr. McNulty-Hawkins of London who
collected different kinds of holes! Samples
from this collection are shown as you
describe and identify them. This is not a
magic trick but a visual comedy routine
with props that you can easily make from
poster board using a razor or cutting knife.
This routine can fit in anywhere in your
show or may be used by itself when you are
called upon for a few minutes of fun. It
could also be made up in calling cards size
for use in close-up situations. We have
added a few additional holes to the original
illustrated routine together with some
additional patter. Dont miss this! A Billy
McComb creation.
The performer displays a fancy pocket handkerchief, places it on the table and folds it into a
square package. He catches an invisible ghost
(named Glorpy) and, lifting a corner of the hank,
tosses him into the handkerchief. For the skeptics
he offers to prove the existence of Glorpy. With a
little encouragement, Glorpy begins to gerkulate in the center of the handkerchief.
The cloth material rises and falls and moves about in an uncanny fashion. The magician
stops Glorpys performance and the hank falls flat. The hank is shaken open, folded up
and placed back in the pocket. Complete with a high quality pocket handkerchief, ten
routines and a free bonus effect.
