XCC Regular Session Meeting Minutes, 12-29-09, Page 25
Motion by Vice President Miller, seconded by Councilman Caupp, that Ordinance Number
(09-86 be now passed. No discussion followed. The Roll on this was the following:
Ayes: Miller, Caupp, Louderback, Mills, Felton, and Propes
Nays: None motion carried.
Items for the Law Director: Mr. Lewis thanked Mayor Pennewitt and President Propes
for their service as Elected Officials. It is a tremendous commitment of their time and resources.
Their compensation is laughable and almost insulting. The compensation should either be zero
or something that is respectable. Councilwoman Felton said it beats $150. Mr. Lewis said he
knows the time they both invested was considerable. They both will be missed and he certainly
hhas enjoyed working with them. President Propes said it has been an honor and pleasure to work
with Mr. Lewis, He appreciated everything Mr. Lewis has done for him and thanked him for his
service.
READING OF COMMUNICATIONS AND DISCUSSION: Councilman Louderback noted
the City of Xenia. He asked
how the public could have access to the results and if they were available on the city’s website.
Mr. Bazelak thought the results were available on the website. Councilman Louderback thought
it would be expensive to print the lengthy report, but he wondered how people that do not have a
computer could have access to the report. He will discuss the detailed survey in the future,
Mr. Percival thought they could print summaries of the results or that copies could be shared
with citizens who call requesting one. Vice President Miller suggested the full survey or
summaries be made available at the Greene County Library. Mr. Percival said that could be
done. Councilman Louderback said it has been a pleasure working with President Propes and
Mayor Pennewitt and he wished them both the best of luck in the future. He also wished
everyone a “Happy New Year.”
Councilman Caupp wished Councilman Louderback a belated “Happy Birthday” since his
birthday was last Friday. He thanked President Propes for his service to the City. As Mr. Lewis
stated, the compensation paid to members of Council is laughable; they obviously do not do it
for the money. He also thanked Mayor Pennewitt for her years of service as a Councilwoman
and Mayor for the City. He met Mayor Pennewitt in 1999 when he first ran for Council. He
wished her the best in her “real” retirement, He also wished “Happy Birthday” to his sister who
tumed 42 today,
Councilwoman Mills wished President Propes and Mayor Pennewitt the best and hopes they
appreciate the extra time they will have with their families, She will be looking forward to
serving with Mayor-Elect Bayless and Council-Elect Smith. She and President Propes ran for
office together the first time. They were both nervous at their first “Meet the Candidates Night”
because they did not know which questions they would be asked. While President Propes was
sitting behind her, he tapped her on the shoulder and asked if she was as nervous as he was. That
question broke the ice. From that time on she knew President Propes was the kind of guy she
would like to work with on Council, He cares and sees things from a personal perspective and
not for the glory of it all. It has been a real honor working with President Propes.
Vice President Miller wished everyone a “Happy New Year.” Council made it through one more
year; it was not easy and sometimes it was not fun. Mayor Pennewitt, Councilwoman Felton,
