allstudentsusingDIBELS(wcpm).Thisdoesntmakesensewith
manyofourstrugglingreadersbecausetheprogressmonitoring
doesntmatchourinstructionalfocus.Thismakesitdifficulttotruly
monitorstudentsprogress.Inmath,thereisthesameissue.If
wecouldchangeprogressmonitoringtobemorealignedwitha
studentsinstruction,itwouldbemuchmorepurposeful.

TheInstructionalTeamdecidedtoredevelopaPDworkgrouptoreview
PDapplications.ThisworkgroupwillmakesurePDapplicationsare
approvedbasedonalignmentwithWashburnsschoolgoalandPLC
goalsattheteamlevel.
ConsiderationwasgiventotheDistrictfactfluencytests.Itwasdecided
thatnewassessmentswouldbecreatedtobetterreflectequal
representationofallbasicfacts.
OnWednesdaysstaffdevelopmentday,weworkedtounpackthe
standards.Staffwasinformedoftheprocessandthenbeganthetaskof
workingonELAstandards.
LearningTargetpostersweredevelopedasavisualcueforstudentsand
stafftoseewheretargetsarepostedineachclassroom.Posterswere
sharedwiththestaff.Theexpectationisthatlearningposterswillbein
eachclassroom.

wedonthaveanyinstructionalworkgroups.Wehavebeenlookingatstudents
whohavereceivedinterventionsforyearsbutdonotqualifyforSPED(orhave
exclusionaryfactors)andtryingtofindoutthebestwaytomeettheirneeds.We
arealsocontinuingtoworkonorallanguage,afterdiscoveringlastyearthata
significantnumberofstudentsinourbuildingingradesK5areatriskintermsof
theirorallanguage.Weareaddressingthisbothinsmallgroups(usingLetsTalk
AboutIt)andinwholegrouplessonsbylookingforwaystoincorporatemoreoral
languageandpurposefultalk.OnOct.15thwealsoreadachapterofTaberskis
book,ComprehensionfromtheGroundUp,thatwasfocusedonorallanguage.
WearealsofocusingonSIOPandbeganwithinteractionbecauseitalsoties
withorallanguage.

EachgradelevelisunpackingthestandardsperAndrewsguidanceand
someteamsarereadytomoveforwardwithformativeassessments.Many
haveaskedtodoitatthesametime.
WechangedthePDformtomeetneedsofthecommitteeandprincipalby
focusingourPDfundsonourSchoolPLCgoal.
GuidedReadingBestPracticePDdayhasbeencreatedandwillbeheldin
DecemberwithBethandElida.

struggledwithdirection.Perdatawelookedat,itappearsas
thoughourbuildingneededsupportwithliteracyinstructiontoour
topperformingstudents(whodidnotmakePEG)andstaffsurvey
resultsshowthatstaffisalsolookingforadditionalPDregarding
meetingtheneedsofstudentsstrugglingwithliteracy.But,we
haventhadchancestomoveforwardwithhowtomakethat
happen.Stillstrugglingwithconceptualizingnewformatfor
InstructionalTeamvs.StaffDevelopmentteamfromlastyear.IT
meetsmonthly.
2. InstructionalTeamleadispartofBLTandreportswhatis
discussedatourmeetingsatmonthlyBLTmeeings.However,for
thefirsthalfoftheyear,ourbuildingprincipalalsocameto
InstructionalTeammeetings.Wehavehadaninterimprincipal
takeoverinlateJanuary.Currently,BLTconsistsofonly3
membersprincipal,ITlead,andLSlead.
