meetingsonkeepingstudentsengagedduringreadingblock,especially

commoncorestandardsinreadingspecifically.
StaffappreciatedtheUnpackingtheStandardspresentationandare

focusfortheyear.However,theISTeamalsowantstobeavailableand
responsivetootherneedsastheyariseinthebuilding.

Ourfamilyliaisonbroughtthetopicofprovidingstaffwithculturally
specificinterventionsasasteptowardsclosingthegap.
Withthedisbandingoftheliteracyleadsanddistrictcommittee
thereisaneedtopromoteliteracyinthebuilding.Aworkgroupwill
beformed.
SPEDisstrugglingtomeetneedsinbuildingduetohighneeds
studentsandtoomanystudentsoncaseload.
Teamshavegatheredinfoabouthowtheyarecollectingformative
assessmentdata.NextstepistoapplyErkensmodeltorefinethat

allstudentsusingDIBELS(wcpm).Thisdoesntmakesensewith
manyofourstrugglingreadersbecausetheprogressmonitoring
doesntmatchourinstructionalfocus.Thismakesitdifficulttotruly
monitorstudentsprogress.Inmath,thereisthesameissue.If
wecouldchangeprogressmonitoringtobemorealignedwitha
studentsinstruction,itwouldbemuchmorepurposeful.

TheInstructionalTeamdecidedtoredevelopaPDworkgrouptoreview
PDapplications.ThisworkgroupwillmakesurePDapplicationsare
approvedbasedonalignmentwithWashburnsschoolgoalandPLC
goalsattheteamlevel.

ConsiderationwasgiventotheDistrictfactfluencytests.Itwasdecided
thatnewassessmentswouldbecreatedtobetterreflectequal
representationofallbasicfacts.

OnWednesdaysstaffdevelopmentday,weworkedtounpackthe
standards.Staffwasinformedoftheprocessandthenbeganthetaskof
workingonELAstandards.

LearningTargetpostersweredevelopedasavisualcueforstudentsand
stafftoseewheretargetsarepostedineachclassroom.Posterswere
sharedwiththestaff.Theexpectationisthatlearningposterswillbein
eachclassroom.

Dataisalsoshowingthatweneedtoworkacrossgradelevelsandlookat
standardsvertically.Manyteachersdontknowtheprerequisitesfor
certainstandardsare(orwhatpreviousgradelevelsexpectationsare).We
areplanningastaffmeetingtotakealookatastandardfromK5andsee
howitchangeswitheachgradelevel.
WhenaskedaboutmorePDwithreadingitwasveryclearthatteachers
wantmorehelpwithinterventions(whattouse,howtouse,etc)

WehaveourInstructionalTeammeetingthefirstFri.ofeverymonth.Currently
wedonthaveanyinstructionalworkgroups.Wehavebeenlookingatstudents
whohavereceivedinterventionsforyearsbutdonotqualifyforSPED(orhave
exclusionaryfactors)andtryingtofindoutthebestwaytomeettheirneeds.We
arealsocontinuingtoworkonorallanguage,afterdiscoveringlastyearthata
significantnumberofstudentsinourbuildingingradesK5areatriskintermsof
theirorallanguage.Weareaddressingthisbothinsmallgroups(usingLetsTalk
AboutIt)andinwholegrouplessonsbylookingforwaystoincorporatemoreoral
languageandpurposefultalk.OnOct.15thwealsoreadachapterofTaberskis
book,ComprehensionfromtheGroundUp,thatwasfocusedonorallanguage.
WearealsofocusingonSIOPandbeganwithinteractionbecauseitalsoties

withorallanguage.

targetsbyusingPDdaysforplanningpurposes.SitebasedPDwillbe
focusedonMathandReadingplanning,PBIS,standardsallalignedwith
theSSP.
EachgradelevelisunpackingthestandardsperAndrewsguidanceand
someteamsarereadytomoveforwardwithformativeassessments.Many
haveaskedtodoitatthesametime.
WechangedthePDformtomeetneedsofthecommitteeandprincipalby
focusingourPDfundsonourSchoolPLCgoal.
GuidedReadingBestPracticePDdayhasbeencreatedandwillbeheldin
DecemberwithBethandElida.
ThinkingMaptrainingwillbeheldfornewteachersandafollowupwillbe
heldforteachersalreadytrained.
TheinstructionalteamiscurrentlyreformattinghowwepresentCurriculum
toparentsintheFall.Nextyearwewillimplementgradelevelvideosof
