Research Question: How does meditation benefit a person?
Working Thesis: Meditation positively benefits a person.
Refined Thesis: Meditation positively benefits a person physically, psychologically, and
therapeutically.

Bonds article goes into depth about the subject of the benefits of meditation. It talks
about the real powers of meditation, and what science has to say about it as well. It explains
studies and tests about following meditators and looking for changes in them. It states that
meditation can help one feel better and improve ones emotional well-being. The article says that
meditation is a gym for the mind and the examples of how it is. It also goes into telling the reader

on how you can meditate. This article is very helpful because of the amount of information it
gives which is a ton. It goes in depth about the subject, which is needed.

McGonigals article shows how ones brain acts on meditation. It states the fact that
science has proved that meditation can help the brain in different ways. These ways being that it
can improve attention, reduce stress, make a person feel more compassion, and help people
commit to change. It shows how they used science to prove these things by using a MRI
machine. This article is crucial because it is an article that goes into great detail about specific
examples of the benefits and not just the whole topic as one and then goes into those different
examples. This article is helpful because it has tons of information on the topic that will be used.

This article starts off by talking about how powerful the mind is and can be. As every
other article, it starts to go into the benefits of mediation. It talks about peoples brains on
meditation and how scientists still are not positive how meditation influences the brain. It
explains how meditation can benefit your health, and mental state. It gives tips about meditating
and has a section on learning how to meditate. This article is helpful to the research because it
gives information on specific examples of benefits such as how it can reduce anxiety and
depression, cut down on migraines, and helps the mind to make smarter decisions.

Ricard provides the most information out of all of the articles. He really goes into depth
about things having to do with meditation. The article talks about what meditation is, how
neuroscientists have been looking at what happens inside the brain during different types of
meditation, the benefits, how meditation makes you have this certain type of awareness, and how
it cultivates attitudes and feelings of loving kindness towards other people. It goes into depth
about every single one of these subjects and has information about each. It has tons of scientific
information as well. This article is crucial to this research because it is one of the articles that has
an abundance of information on meditation and has also has scientific studies.

Rondons article states how meditation can make a difference in someones daily life. It
talks about the benefits and that there are many areas in benefits such as mind, body, behavior,
environment, and it also goes into the health-related benefits that come from meditation. It
provides statements from teens who meditate and what they have to say about it. The article says
that meditation can be divided into two groups based on concentration or contemplation. This
article is beneficial because it goes into the health-benefits and states different ways that
meditation can benefit you, and it is helpful because of the fact that it has those statements from
teenagers as well.

Walshs article contains a ton of information on meditation. It talks about the
psychological effects, what it has to do with the Buddhist enlightenment, physiological variables,
therapeutic, and how meditation works. This article is very helpful because Walsh is a professor
of psychiatry, philosophy, and anthropology so he knows about the subject. It gives information
on meditation in general and the benefits of it as well. It also includes some information about
studies done and what they showed about meditation. This article is crucial because it goes in
depth about the subject, and gives different examples on how meditation is beneficial and
promotes well-being.
