TITLE

SPONSOR

Representative Thomas J. Calter

HEARING DATE

LEGISLATIVE
HISTORY

New bill.

CURRENT LAW

M.G.L. Chapter 23K establishes the structure, powers and duties of the
Massachusetts Gaming Commission.

SUMMARY
This bill would authorize the Massachusetts Gaming Commission (MGC) to issue a limited slot
machine license to a veterans organization to operate up to 10 slot machines in an establishment
owned or leased by the veterans organization. The license would be non-transferable, nonassignable and valid for 5 years.
This bill would require MGC to establish procedures for the limited slot machine license
application and renewal process. It would also allow MGC to establish an application or renewal
fee not to exceed $500. These fees would be deposited into the Gaming Revenue Fund.
According to the bill, MGC would need to register, inspect and test all slot machines used by
veterans organizations. This bill would, however, allow MGC to use the services of an
independent testing laboratory to perform slot machine inspection and testing.
