Up Close and Technical Watercolor Paintings

1. Make a photograph of an object up close. Select an object with a broad range of values, shimmering
highlights, and interesting textures.
2. Create a "layered and puzzled" drawing which carefully documents all layers of values and surface
effects (see below for examples)
3. Transfer the outlined drawing onto good quality watercolor paper and begin painting.
4. General strategies to use with watercolor:
Light to dark
General to specific
Broad to detail
Colors are layered and built through lightness of value
