Dear Mrs. Kim Agnew:
I am very excited to begin teaching 7th grade English at Imagine Avondale. I would like to
thank you for this opportunity to teach at your school, and take a moment to introduce
myself and my teaching philosophyto you.
First, its very important to me that my students feel comfortable in my class. A student
who feels safe in the classroom is more likely to seek help when they have questions, or
concerns. My classroom motto is that:
Our classroom is a community of compassionate, determined and enthusiastic
learners who will respect and support the learning environment.
I hope to foster the sense of belonging in all of my students. As an English teacher, I
know that many students fear reading and public speaking. It is my wish to use the
students prior knowledge to really engage them in the topics selected for reading.
Students will exposed to a plethora of learning materials including: computers, tablets,
videos, maps, graphs, smartboards, cell phones, test/ quizzes, surveys etc. Ive learned
that students become active in their education when you connect the lesson to
information that they already hold previous knowledge of. Therefore, we will have fun
while connecting our learning to new information from: articles, collages, graphic
organizers, websites, plays, dramas, poetry, novellas, textbooks, journals, novels, clay,
paintings, etc.
I will be using scaffolding techniques to build my students knowledge up, so that they
can assimilate new information easier. There are many strategies available to help
students decode their reading. I plan on using combination lesson plans which will
include: personal stories, maps, images, pictures, puzzles, websites, movies, and music.
Students will also work on individual and in small collaborative group projects to solve
real world problems. I expect my students to follow the classroom procedures, and act
with the appropriate behaviors for all classroom interactions; while improving upon their
listening skills by actively engaging, and appropriately responding, during classroom
conversations, discussions and debates.
Secondly, I will make sure that every student who enters my classroom will be educated in a way
that best fits their specific and diverse needs. I understand that we, the teachers and
administration, are our own community and as such will be working closely together. I
appreciate any and all advice to improve my performance, and have also attached my
resume for further reflection.
To the start of a wonderful new year!
Sincerely,
Breanna Madison

WELCOME TO THE 7th GRADE!

Parents & Students,
Hello Everyone! I am Ms. Madison, and I would like to welcome you to the 7th grade. We
will have a very busy and exciting year together here at Imagine Avondale! Im an ASU
graduate with a degree in Education and English, so, I will be your English Language
Arts teacher. Each year my students have new and unique outlooks on the topics for class,
and Im looking forward to hearing your thoughts on this years topics. I have a passion
for learning, and hope that my students will learn to share in my enthusiasm for English.
We will be learning a lot this year, but we will have a lot of fun while learning together.
The goal for this class is to engage you in reading and writing and to ultimately prepare
you for future schooling.
This year we will focus on working in groups on inquiry activities; therefore, I expect
everyone to be courteous and respectful to each other. Together we will create a safe and
engaging environment to further our learning. As a class we will generate, and explain,
our goals and expectations for the year.
Communication will play a large role in our classroom, and we want parents to be as
involved as possible. Parents are encouraged to take an active part in their students
learning. Volunteering and observing are always welcome! Questions or concerns will be
addressed as soon as possible via email or phone. Letters will be sent home so that larger
issue can be addressed in person.
Parents can reach me by phone, Monday-Friday at: (623) 210-2433

PARENT/ STUDENT CONFERENCE

Hello Mr. / Mrs. ____NAME____
This quarter students are working in collaborative groups to create electronic presentation
on their topic to present to the class. Students were allowed to choose one partner, and
then pairs were randomly assigned groups. Your students group has selected an
interesting topic, and has started working on what Im sure will be an amazing project.
However, STUDENTS NAME has refused to contribute to the group work. His group
mates have asked me to address the issue- as the project is worth a large portion of the
quarter grade. STUDENTS NAME seemed very excited to start this project, and we
have already had a meeting, but we did not come to a conclusive understanding.
STUDENTS NAME is very talented, and I know that their potential to help their group
is limitless. Therefore, I would like to schedule a meeting with both STUDENTS NAME
and you to see if we can find a solution.
Please call, or email me to schedule a meeting time that works for you as soon as
possible:
I am available by phone, Monday-Friday at: (623) 210-2433
Or by email, Sunday-Friday at: breanna.e.madison@gmail.com
Thank You,
Ms. Madison
