Week of October 26th, 2015
Info
We will be reading the story The Twin Club this week. The children will bring
home their reading book on Tuesday and Wednesday night to practice reading the
story at home with you. To become on-grade level readers we must practice
reading every day. They should be able to tell you what happened in the beginning,
middle and end of the story too. We are starting in the green reading book this
week, which is the second grade level texts.

Grammar and Writing
We are working with writing complete
sentences this week. We are also going
to start working on writing a personal
narrative. Students will continue to
edit their writing with the Writers
Checklist.

Phonics Study

Short Vowels
CV/VC and VCC/CV patterns
Alphabetizing
Word Wall Words for the week:
someone, country, friend, front,
somewhere
Selection Vocabulary: cousins,
meadow, parents, promise

Fluency Reads
Twice a month I give a one minute
fluency read from an on-grade level
text. Please look at your childs binder
on Wednesday to check their progress.
By the end of this year, your child must
be reading 90 plus words per minute.

Comprehension
We are continuing to work on sequencing. We are working hard to retell a story
in order and being able to tell what happened at the beginning, middle, and end of
the story. We are reviewing all the story elements; characters, setting and plot.
