Session will begin at 9:15 a.m.

November 2, 2015

Assignment Window and Details

November 2 November 6
The Portfolio will include:
Word Problems
Extended Responses

Grade is based off of 14 total points.

We will be working on the Portfolio exclusively during
Math session this week.

What is expected
Students are expected to explain their
answers in word form.
Students are expected to show their work
not just an answer.
Students are allowed to use their
accommodations for this assignment.

Tips for writing great answers

Make sure to explain how you found your answer in word form.
Example: 25 x 32
I use partial products to find the answer. First I expanded 25 into 20 + 5 and
then I expanded 32 into 30 + 2. I then distributed the tens place in 25 to the
tens place in 32 and the ones place in 32. So, 20 x 30 = 600, 20 x 2 = 40. Then I
distributed the ones place in 25 to the tens place in 32 and the ones place in
32. So, 5 x 30 = 150, 5 x 2 = 10. I then added all the products together 600 +
40 + 150 + 10 = 800.
(Your descriptions does NOT have to be this long! Remember, your student can tell you what
they are thinking and the LC can type/write for them!)

Steps to Success
1. Learn how to demonstrate your thinking when answering extended response
questions. Watch this video that focuses on how you use models, words, and
numbers to explain your thinking.
