Materials/
- Handouts with recorded results (previous lesson)
Resources
- Computers or Laptops with internet
- Weebly step by step instructions worksheet
- Books and pens
AusVELS
- MATHS - Use scatter plots to investigate and comment on relationships
between two numerical variables (ACMSP251)
Substitute values into formulas to determine an unknown (ACMNA234)
-

PE - At Level 10, students demonstrate proficiency in the execution of

manipulative and movement skills during complex activities. They demonstrate
advanced skills in selected physical activities.
Learning Intentions
Students will be able to:
(Written on the board)
- Have an understanding of how to use Weebly and upload their graphs onto
the website to present to class
- Understand how to represent relevant data (using different representations)
- Plot data (which was grouped by teacher before class e.g. all the results from
gym session were combined)
Focus Questions
What trends does the data show?
How can we upload information to Weebly?

Introduces: Sustainability
Students must write down learning intentions. (This allows them to understand what is
expected from todays class)
(What I do) Prior knowledge activity Get students to discuss and brainstorm what they
understand about different representations of data and describing relationships
between variables. Get students in small groups 3-4 discussing what they know about
weebly and sustainability sustaining knowledge and certain information.
(What students do)
Students to demonstrate and discuss in small groups their understanding of data
representation and website design. Students to write answers in dot points and present
collaboratively to class.

covered and strengthen
the connection between
set task and learning
intention.)

students to perform set

monitor student progress
and assess via
observation)
Evaluate

students through
observation as well as
their ability to record data)

(What I do) 2 mins

Explain to students what the task is for todays lesson making sure students are
working independently, however collaboration is allowed and encouraged. Ensure that
students understand how to follow step-by-step sheet which explains how to set up
weebly. Ensure that once they set up the website, they need to upload their data from
gym session, to show to class.
(What students do)
Students to jump on computer or laptop and start following step-by-step sheet to set up
weebly. Students to design and play around on weebly to create a well thought of
website which includes their gym session data. They may represent it in a variety of
ways (scatter plot, dot plot etc. discussed previous lessons)
(What I do) 25 mins
Ensure that students are working on their website. Teacher to walk around and give
assistance to students who may be having difficulties. Teacher must keep students on
track and making sure that the data which they want to represent from gym session is
put into website to show to class. Ensure students have confirmed what way they want
to represent the gym session data e.g. dot plot, scatter plot etc.
(What students do)
Students will begin working on their website design. They must create a website which
looks professional and appealing. The website should include pictures and a graph
with annotations regarding gym session. (The theory was done previous lessons so
they understand how to represent data and comment on it.) Students must present the
data in a way they wish and must show the final product to class.
(What I do) 5 mins
This class will be assessed through observation in class discussion and their individual
demonstration of final weebly product including chosen graph, which represents the
gym session data. Teacher will prompt questions such as:
Is the graph negatively or positively skewed? What does that mean?
Is there a difference between Male and Female results?
Is the data shown symmetrical? Etc.
Extra work: Students who have experience with web design and find plotting graphs
easy, will be challenged by working out the mean, median and mode. They will also be
required to make a box plot, showing: lowest value, Q1(lower quartile), Q2(median),
Q3(upper quartile), largest value This is known as the 5 number summary
(What students do) Formative: 2 minutes
Reflect on the session, discussing any issues they have had and also what new
information they learned, regarding web design and also representation of data.
Teacher to listen to conversation and give feedback where necessary.
