Why did the Grand Alliance fall apart?

Pre war
In the Russian civil war UK, France and USA support
whites and invade Russia.
The Russians sign the Pact of steel with Nazis in
1939 francs and UK don't like it.
During ww2
Second front
One key strain in the alliance was over the timing
of the opening a second front on the west against
Germany. Stalin felt that he was taking most of the
strain from the Germans and the Wests refusal to
open up a second front until the time was right.
Stalin was paranoid the that the west were waiting
for Germany to defeat Russia before going in.
The Issue of Poland
Russia has been invaded through Poland three
times. The soviets did not want to see a
government unsympathetic to Communism. They
wanted at least half of Poland as a result. The Brits
wanted to keep Poland independent. The Poles had
always had tension with Russia an example of this
was in 1943 when Nazis discovered a mass grave
containing the bodies of 10000 polish officers.
The Warsaw rising
Poles led a brave rebellion against the Nazis but
were crushed. Stalin was accused of deliberately
standing by and refusing to help. In 1945 when the
Soviets invade Poland they were unable to offer
any resistance. This angered the west who had

fought WW2 to keep Poland independent yet they

could offer no more then verbal protests
Harry Truman
Vice President Harry Truman hated communism
and was considered key in the development of the
red scare. He was of the opinion that the USA
Should let the Russians and the Germans fight it
out before going in. Roosevelt did not share this
view but many Americans did.
