Assessment Technology
This paper will take a look and help you to understand the different
software programs Polldaddy, Smart Response , and Google Forms, and
how these software can support student assessment, both formative and
summative, and the pros and cons of using technology to perform both. By
using technology, it make students assessment easier to perform.
Technology gives teachers the ability to perform assessments virtually at
any moment, both on-going and cumulative. Using games, quizzes, polls,
and discussions, teachers can use technology to engage student interest and
participation. The more engaged the students are, the more likely they are
remember the lesson and be able to utilize it in practical ways. Unlike
standardized testing, technology based classroom assessments are easier on
the student and the teacher (Salend, 2009). Technology has changed the
world in many ways and has changed how teachers teach and also the way
students learn.
Technology to Facilitate Ongoing Efforts to Assess Student
Learning
Education will always be a topic of discussion. There has been a
progress to ensuring that our students are learning but there is still a lot
more to be done. By using technology it creates a more easier way to get

things done like assessments. Assessment is the manner in which a teacher

may determine a students abilities, interests, disabilities, learning styles,
and performance levels and or rates. There are two types of assessments
which are formative assessment and summative assessments (). There is a
difference between the both of them and they may be used in different
manners.
Heres some methods in which these assessments can be made for like
example; making and having a answer key, creating a multiple choice
questions and answers, and the proper to demonstration the application of
the lesson or the material that was learned by the students. formative and
summative assessments may be facilitated by technology in a number of
ways.

Polldaddy
Polldaddy is a professional interactive online survey software, and can
be used a formative assessment. With polldaddy, you can create polls,
surveys or quizzes online and get responses fast and easy. Teachers can use
polldaddy as to create polls that goes alone with the lesson, also do
surveys. Its free so teachers and students both can register. Teachers can
use polldaddy to assess students learning. In the classroom teachers can use
a project or a smartboard to discuss and to assess knowledge as the teacher
starts a new unit. Polldaddy can also be used for weekly quiz zes to gain

knowledge of the students understanding and a means of formative

assessment. Teachers can also place a poll on the teacher web page as a
homework and have parent and student answer the poll.

Smart Response
Smart response is a way to conduct assessments on students.
Teachers can use smart response (clickers) in many ways , For one, smart
response provide immediate feedback to teachers about students during the
lesson. One way teachers can use it as a class warm up and check to see if
students understanding of the lesson is preventlent, also can be use after the
lesson to see if they also understood what the the lesson was about. Smart
response clickers are also another way to interact with students while
making learning fun, and spartd great class discussion about why the
answers are right or wrong. By incorporating Smart Response clickers
teachers could now use this specific software to assess student learning, and
is a nice way of incorporating technology into the classroom and to see it
class as a whole gets it.

Google forms
Google form is a great resources to use. With google form, forms can
be created, shared and also customized. Teachers can also use google form
to create a survey, and streamline the classroom.Technology has enhanced
teachers teaching and students learning, by using google form, It can be

used to create quizes, to keep track of students assignment, and teachers

can also use google form to assess student learning. One way teachers can
use google form is by creating a rubric. A rubric help teachers to evaluate
students performance and can also help teachers to focus on the key
concepts and standards that the students must obtain. There is a lot of great
things that can be done by using google form (Carey, J 2014).

Formative and Summative Assessments

Assesment have been used to measure how much students have
learned up to a particular point in time (Stiggins, 2007). Formative
assessment is a way in which we/teachers monitor students and their
learning, and gather information tobe able to provide an ongoing feedback
that can be used by teachers, that help improve their teaching and by
students to improve their learning. Formative assessments also help
students to identify their strengths and weaknesses and target areas that
need work. Summative assessments is to evaluate student learning at the
end of an instructional unit by comparing it against some standard or
benchmark. Technology can be used to facilite both assessments which will
make it easier for teachers to be more consistent in assessing the students.
As teachers, we have to much sure the students are getting it.

Pros and Cons of using Technology to Facilitate Assessment

There is always gonna be pros and cons in all things and we must
weigh it out. The Pros and cons of technology is that if a teacher do not use
the data received to use to enhance student learning, then technology has
failed students to be able to reach their potential, students are then left with
work that has kept them busy but has failed to prepare them for summative
assessments. The pros of using technology to facilitate assessments is much
more important than cons. For one by using technology to do an assessment,
makes it a lot faster and efficient. By using computers, students work can be
scored while the assesment is being done. Technology has made it easier
for teachers to impart knowledge to the students and for students to acquire
it (Roman Shahakov, 2015). With that teachers dont have to grade each
indivdual test which again saves time. One con to using technology is its
dependency, Another con in using technology to facilitate an assesment that
is limited to the sort of test that can be given such as multiple choice.
Conclusion
Technology has created an endless possibilities for teachers and students.
When using technology in student centered assessments, with technology, it
has made evaluating students a lot easier but more accurate. Students enjoy
learning new things that is fun and also engaging. When used in conjunction
with other forms of evaluation, technology helps teachers take classroom
learning to higher level of excellence. With the help of technology,
Assesment have been used to measure how much students have learned

and which helps the teach to plan strategically to help the student to reach
their full learning potential.
