UNIT 2

MASTERY PROJECT

LO 3.A.1: Explain the core American beliefs, values, and norms that define the relationship between citizens and government
and citizens with each other.

Americans support a democratic government that is

in place today
Within a democratic government the people have to
power to control/limit the power held by the
government and make sure that the rights stated in
the constitution are protected

LO 3.A.2: Evaluate the influence of various factors in political attitudes and socialization.

Almost every citizen agrees with one political party

over another which means that they have established

a political identity
This identity is often created by personal opinions
along with environmental influences such as
-teachings
-media/opinions of respected leaders
-family influences

LO 4.A.1: Evaluate the impact that public opinion and scientific polling have on elections and
policy debates.

The world itself is the definition of public opinion.

However many people share different opinions

which makes it difficult to measure.
With scientific polling many factors that would seem
to effect elections and voting patterns does such as
those being polled the questions being asked
wording and even the tone in which the question(if
asked verbally) is being asked can change the way a
voter views the topic

LO 3.A.3: Analyze the relationship between 21st century globalization and American
political, social and cultural values.

Because knowledge on political issues are more

accessible than ever it has an impact on political,

social and cultural values
With issues that the government faces, such as isis,
all over the internet and news it is hard for our
everyday world not to be effected. People want to
fight back and make a difference to prove their
involvement in their government

LO 3.B.1: Analyze how political culture influences the formation, goals, and implementation
of public policy.

Political culture hold a strong power over the

formation, goals, and implementation of public

policy
Most clearly seen with the most controversial topic
marijuana. Obviously the majority of young people
are in favor of legalization of it and that has its effect
on how the government view that policy and with
ideas like legalizing it and taxing it, the idea doesnt
seem so bad to government policy makers.

LO 3.C.1: Compare how political ideologies vary on the role of government in regulating the
marketplace.

Political ideology is separated into various

groups/sections but put into an easier spectrum

there are liberals conservatives and those who lie in
the middle
On a liberal side, the governments role in regulating
the marketplace should be very active. The
government should help in making the marketplace
more stable and beneficial for all. However with
conservatives the governments role needs to be more
minimal and the people need to take control of
stabilizing the marketplace

LO 3.C.2: Compare how political ideologies vary with regard to the role of government in
addressing social issues.

Given a social issue such as gay marriage and the

governments role in that.

Conservatives fought long and hard and even after
the legalization of gay marriage continue to fight the
governments control/approval of it. As recently seen
with Kim Davis who decided to ignore her
government status along with the governments
ruling on the situation
Liberals on the other hand are proud of the
governments work on this issue and continue to
move forward on the next social issue to solve

LO 4.D.1: Summarize the voting rights protections in the Constitution and in legislation.

The most ideal situation would be that everyone is

allowed and capable to vote however that isnt and

wasnt always the case.
During the development of the Constitution the only
ones allowed to vote were privileged white men.
Through many years of fighting for suffrage and
rights, that was able to change. Now the Constitution
allows all races and genders over the legal age of 18
to use their voice in the government(15th,19th, and
26th amendments all in order)

LO 4.D.2: Analyze the roles that individual choice and state laws play in voter turnout in
elections.

The voter turnout is likely to be much higher during

an election that is important like the 2008

presidential election for example
Many states have different requirements for those
who are able to vote but the obvious one is voters
must be 18 years old in order to vote
One main aspect that effects voter turnout is pure
desire to vote. Many lack the motivation to vote and
find it a hassle and when thing arent going the way
they like it then they complain

LO 4.D.3: Analyze U.S. voter turnout and compare it with that in other democracies.

Voter turnout is very odd in the United States .

Unlike many other countries, we are given the

education and right to vote and yet choose not to.
People in our history have fought hard to give those
of different races and genders the rights to be able to
have a voice in our government and yet it is taken for
granted by those who have the power to make the
biggest changes. Other democracies voter turnout is
much higher due to the people and their desire to be
apart of the decisions being made in their country

LO 4.D.4: Explain the factors that influence voter choices.

An educated voter is an ideal voter. Someone who

knows what there are using their voice to promote

and understands the importance of their voice
Another huge factor that influences voters choices is
which political party they identify with. This and
those candidates within that party that are running
that voters can identify/relate with

LO 4.D.5: Compare different models of voting behavior

There are various types of voting during an election

especially during primary elections such as a closed

primary and an open primary
A closed primary only allows voters who are
registered under the specific party being voted on to
vote
A open primary allows voters to choose candidates
for both parties
