Task 2 - Roles and responsibilities of the teacher

Focus: On the teacher


Student teachers will focus on the roles of the teacher, how s/he organizes
his/her classroom and interacts with the learners.

Objective

For student teachers to begin to understand the diverse nature of


teaching by observing a teacher for the day.

Procedure
Using the following checklist, observe the teacher throughout the day and
write down what her/his roles and responsibilities were, and how long was
spent on
each.

Write a summary of your teachers roles and


responsibilities during the day and what you did to
help her in the different activities. Use the table
above for this information.

Yesterday was the second day that I went to the Al Safa School. It was very wonderful day,
and interested. I observed my teachers roles during the class time, or her whole day. She
had really a lot of works to do it in her day in the school. First thing she organized the class
before the children came in, and when I enter the class without any child I saw that she put
different things of tools in each table to work with it in class time. At 8 oclock she went to
the area that they do assembly every day, and she took care of children to stand in the
line. Then she took them to the classroom, and took attendance at 8:15. Between 8:20 and
8:40, she did practice about the days of the week, and the some litters. She did it with
different activity. At 8:45, she organized the childrens name in 4 groups. After the work,
she tidy up the classroom. From 9:05 until 9:20, she told to the children to make a line to
get ready for the breakfast. During that time, she prepared for the next class before the
children came in. After the children came to the class and ate their food, the teacher was
look to the children and helps them when they ate. At 10 oclock, she did different activity
to make them busy and learn something. For example, when she works with one group of 5
or 6 childs, others were busy in different activity. After that time, she took the children to
other class which is dancing class. Between 12:20 and 12:45, she took care of the
childrens lunch break, and helps some child to open their foods or drinks. Then, she gave
each child different color of ties to work in different activity. The activity could name (Free
flow) that its in every Wednesday. For example, the children who had red color tie, they
were in Ruby-Dance Class. And other childs were do different activity class. After that,
when they finished the time of free flow class, the teacher had to clean up the classroom.
At 2:00 to 2:30 she took care of children until their family came to tame them, and give
them their not books to put it on their bags. The teacher had a lot of roles, so she had very
hard work on the day.

things during the day. Or, I wonder how s/he manages to do so much

Ask your MST about the roles s/he prefers the most. Find out why. Are
there any s/he does not like to do that much?

prepared the class before the children come in, so I think that is a big roles. Also, when she
took them to other class, and make them on line, so she is a great teacher. Finally, I asked
Mrs. Hirst about the roles that she preferred, and about any roles that she doesnt like. She
said I love my job, so I have to love to do my roles and responsibilities The teacher had many
roles and responsibilities to her students that she has to do it and take care of them. One of
the most important role that when she meet the childrens parent, because may be she need
to tell them about their childs activity at the school and home, so she can compare the
childrens activities between school and home. Also, she can make the children more develop.
Second role, she has to make the children be love to come to the school by her behavior. For
example, Mrs. Hirst did many activities to make children happy and no one was unhappy.
Third role, clean up the classroom. When she cleaned the class the children helped her
directly, so she taught them to help other. Also when I draw some picture for a boy who
named Zeyad and I cut it out, then he started to cleaned up the table. In addition, she had
attended assembly with her students. The least important role, I think its not important to
mark work, because she can mark it in the home or when the children go back to home.
In my opinion I think that when I become a teacher I will have difficult roles and one of them
when I will have a trip with my students, I have to be very carefully of them, because if one of
my students have some problem it will be my responsibilities. Also, I will have many roles, but
I like some roles that make my students feel happy and comfort with me. For example, in the
future when I become a teacher I will do different activity and play with the students that will
make them fun and interest, so I will like to do this role.
During assembly, all the teachers were behind the children and, Im surprised when the
children stand direct on the line. They followed the teacher faster. I think that the teachers
are teach the children about the rules in great way. Also, I shucked when the teacher showed
the children a book that had litters and pictures, the children could say the name of the
picture and the sound of the litters. In addition, I delighted when Mrs. Hirst could make the
children be attention with her during the lessons. Mrs. Hirst to my students. But she said
there is some roles are difficult. For example, when the children play in the playground. I hope
to be like Mrs. Hirst in her roles in the future, and I will learn from her roles each week I go.
