Activity Plan
Age/ Grade: Kindergarten

Objectives: Students will learn the art of making various color.

Materials: Old broken crayons of various colors, a blow dryer (used by the teacher), a heat
safe container (for

melting), and mini cupcake holders.

Activity: Students will collect old crayons from containers and place them in a heat safe
container. The teacher will heat the crayons with the blow dryer, causing the crayons to melt
and blend/swirl. Teacher will then pour liquid into cupcake holders to mold. Allow mixture to
cool. Assist the students in taking their newly created crayon out of the holder.
Scaffolding: Assisting children in picking various colors to avoid picking a color of a similar
shade. To do this, teacher will separate color ahead of time into 3 separate containers-light,
medium, and dark. During the activity the instructor will ask the children to pick one color
from 2 of the bins of their choice.

with and explore
materials and their abilities. p.139
