Forcircuitbreakers,arcmodelingequationsintroducedbyMayrandCassiearewidelyapplied.The
scopeofthemare:
MayrarcmodelBestapplicabletosmallcurrentarc,intheorderoflessthanseveraltenAinaSF6
gasorairblastcircuitbreaker.Alsoapplicabletopostarccurrentarcwhichexistsafterthecurrent
interruption(currentzero)forseveralscalledas"thermalmode."Acircuitbreaker'sperformancein
apowersystem,i.e.,successfulcurrentbreakingornot,canbebestanalyzedapplyingthisarcmodel,
becausethephenomenaaremainlyrelatedtosuchtimeinterval.Someminorsupplementstothemodel
equationhavebeentriedbyanotherpeople.
CassiearcmodelBestapplicabletohighcurrentarc,intheorderof100A100kAinaSF6gasor
airblastcircuitbreaker.Transientphenomenabydampingeffectsofacircuitbreakerarcinapower
systemcanbeanalyzedbythismodel,i.e.,theeffectofthearcresistance.
