RESEARCH AND WRITING

A number of reasons account for Africas low scholarly output, but one reason is that very little
makes its way into the digital medium to increase the visibility of African authors research
(Chisenga, 2006). To contribute my quota in correcting this anomaly, I have chosen a research
area that is focused on digital libraries for scholarly communication with specialization in
developing countries, using Ghana as a study location. To get ready for the task ahead, I have
taken more than the required number of courses as shown in my coursework tab.
My research looks at the impact of digital libraries in scholarly work with reference to
developing countries. My research is based on Kochtanek, Rafee and Heins (2001) insights into
the complexities of digital libraries as web-based resources, G. Chowdhury & S. Chowdhurys
(2002) focus on issues, trends, and changes in digital libraries and Calhouns (2014) views on the
social and community impacts of digital libraries. These authors, among others, have impacted
my outlook of digital libraries to a large extent. With this, I am set to delve into digital library
development in developing countries, the focus of my study.
I have also been involved in a number of projects, either individually or in collaboration with
colleagues at the Information Experience Laboratory (IELAB) in designing end-user interfaces,
all of which work towards my project goal. Specifically I have conducted usability studies by
evaluating technology to create a user-centered design on a number of Electronic Healthcare
Records (EHR) and digital archives, some of which have been accepted for presentation at
appropriate conferences.
