Assignment 1: Information Literacy

1)
Articles 1 & 2:
A) Keywords used to find articles: Mobile Technology

B) Database used: CCBC Library, JSTOR

C) Why did you choose this database: I chose to use this database because it was
an academic database provided by the school for use for the students. I knew it would
be reliable and have correct research articles based off the topics we were given. I have
used JSTOR in the past and have found useful articles with this database.

D) Below is DB article one cited in MLA format:

Baran, Evrim. "A Review of Research on Mobile Learning in Teacher
Education." Journal of Educational Technology & Society 17.4, Review Articles in
Educational Technology (2014): 17-32. JSTOR. Web. 20 Sept. 2015.
DB Article two cited in MLA format:
Cumming, Therese M. "Mobile Learning as a Tool for Students with Emotional
and Behavioral Disorders: Combining Evidence-Based Practice with New
Technology." Beyond Behavior 23.1 (2013): 23-29.JSTOR. Web. 20 Sept. 2015.

2)
A) The title of the article I chose from zdnet.com is Mobile or else: Why Omni-channel
is your only hope. The article tells us that mobile technology has greatly changed the
world and will continue to change the word and that businesses must keep pace, the
article tells us basically that mobile technology is the way to go and that it must be a top
priority. It talks about how a business needs to reach its clients on the customers own
terms, meaning that they need to reach the customers when they are on their mobile
devices which is very often.

Assignment 1: Information Literacy

*Overall both search engines are really similar in how they are set up and their content.
However, I personally found Google to be more useful for me because it was easier for
me to use and I didnt have to scroll through a ton of advertisements to get to what I
needed which saved me some valuable time. I also like Google better because it takes
you to the search bar right away, where as Yahoo has a very distracting homepage
which can make it really hard to go right to the search bar.

4) TRAPP Your Sources:

A) The article I found in step 2 was written September 1, 2015 at 12:39 PM. It does not
appear to have been updated yet, most likely because it is still a very recent article.
B) Yes it does relate to my topic because my topic was mobile technology and this
article talks about mobile technology. The article discusses how businesses need to
embrace mobile technology as it is part of the future of the industry and a great and
efficient way to conduct business with clients who are always on the go.

C) The author is David Gewirtz who appears to be a contributor for the website. I would
say that Mr. Gewirtz is qualified to write about this topic because if he was not, I do not
believe the website would have him as a valuable contributor. He must know what he is
talking about in order to write for the website.
D) I believe the information is accurate; it appears that the author has done research on
the topic and that the information is trustworthy, nothing seems to be out of the ordinary
or unbelievable. There is a lot of information from other reputable sources and data from
businesses such as Goldman and Sachs so this leads me to believe that the information
has been tested for accuracy and is trustworthy. I believe the purpose was to inform us
about mobile technology and how it is the way of the future. One could also argue that
the information might be a bit persuasive as it is trying to persuade or suggest to
businesses that they need to be more up to date with mobile technology and use it on a
consistent basis as it is the way of the future and one of the best ways to connect with
customers. I think the material could be a bit bias because it is clear the author favors
mobile devices and the technology they provide, but is overall objective because he is
suggesting that the common trend in the business world today is that of mobile
technology so most everyone probably feels as he does.

5)
A) Ease of Access:

Mark Phares
Assignment 1: Information Literacy

Internet article 1 was definitely easier to access because all that was needed was
to go to a simple website and type in what you were looking for without really having to
worry about anything else. I think it was more difficult to search for database article 1
because there were a lot more steps involved such as finding the databases we could
use, and making sure the articles were scholarly reviewed and covered the topics we
needed etc.
B) Timeliness:
In terms of timeliness I believe that it took less time to find internet article 1 than it
did to find database article 1. Again there was a lot more involved in terms of in depth
searching trying to get database article 1 in comparison to internet article 1. It took me
about 2-3 minutes to find and access what I wanted and needed for internet article 1,
but took more than 5 minutes to access what I needed for the database article, the
search process was a lot more involved.

C) Authority:
As far as authority is concerned I trust both articles, but I trust the database
article more because I know for sure it is from a reputable source since the
requirements for the article were that it be scholarly reviewed. The internet article was
from one of the provided websites so I know it is also reputable, but it is harder to tell. I
feel like the person that wrote the database article probably knows more about the topic

of mobile technology than the person who wrote the internet article, they probably have
more education and experience on the subject.
