Step1.DetermineifthestudentshouldreceiveaSTAARprogressmeasure.
Inordertoreceiveaprogressmeasurein2015,astudentmustmeetALLofthefollowingcriteriawithin
thesamecontentarea(mathematics,reading,writing,orEnglish):
Haveavalidscorefromtheprioryear1andthecurrentyear
Havetestedinsuccessivegradelevelsorendofcourse(EOC)testsintheprioryearandthe
currentyear.StudentswhotookthesamegradelevelorEOCtestintheprioryearandthe
currentyearwillnotreceiveaprogressmeasure.StudentswhotakeSTAARassessmentsand
haveskippedagradelevelbetweentheprioryearandthecurrentyear,willreceiveaprogress
measure.
HavetakenaSTAARorSTAARLtestintheprioryearandaSTAAR,STAARL,orSTAARAtestin
thecurrentyear.
ForSTAARreadingandwritingassessments,havetakentestsinthesamelanguageintheprior
yearandthecurrentyear(i.e.,EnglishorSpanish).
NotethatstudentsidentifiedaslimitedEnglishproficient(LEP)andtestedinSpanishlanguagetest
versionsmustalsomeetthecriteriaabove.LEPstudentstestedinEnglishlanguagetestversionswill
onlyreceiveaSTAARprogressmeasureiftheyarenoteligiblefortheELLprogressmeasure.
Ifastudentdoesnotmeetoneormoreofthesecriteria,thestudentwillnotreceiveaprogress
measure.Somestudentsmaymeetthecriteriaandreceiveaprogressmeasureforonecontentarea
butnotanother.
ThefollowingstepsapplyforstudentswhotookSTAAR,STAARL,orSTAARAtests.
Step2.CompiletheneededinformationtocomputeaSTAARprogressmeasure.
Inordertocalculatetheprogressmeasure,thefollowingstudentinformationisneeded:
Testinformationfromthecurrentyear,including
o Gradelevel
o Contentarea(i.e.,subject)
o Testlanguage(EnglishorSpanish)
