2016 APPLICATION TIPS

GENERAL TIPS

You are expected to answer six essays, 5 marks each

To stand a chance, you need to target at least 25 marks

How do you achieve that

Research your answers.

Show the deficit you are trying to fulfill

Remember three things in all essays, make sure they are present
1.

Your ability to independently initiate an idea, something new. It shows


your LEADERSHIP

2.

Your ability to involve others in the idea to ensure CONTINUITY.

3.

Always focus on the IMPACTS of your activities and the RESULTS it is


yielding

E1:

Please give a brief description of your professional


background and work. (50 words)

This is more an elevator speech, you need to rehearse more. Personally I


will answer it last, because it is the summary of all Essays

Essay one, seek to discover the importance of your work in the society.

Make sure you show the importance in the shortest words.

Focus on: Why is your work important to the development of


Africa?

Research your answers.

E2:

Nelson Mandela said, It always seems impossible until it is done. Describe a


specific instance of when you did something that seemed impossible. How did you
gain support from others who did not share or understand your vision? (100 words)

Essay two, seeks to identify your ability to work with others.

How did you use the human resources around you to go around
challenging situations?

How much of a team player are you?

Focus less on your prowess and focus more on monumental societal


changing decision

Avoid personal thoughts

E3:

Describe the role you play in your community. Outside of your


professional work, what do you do to improve your community? (100
words)

This question is testing your volunteer activism.

What are you doing to make society better aside from your professional
work.

What are you doing free, from your pocket

How attached are you to some issues in the society, and what are you
doing to make them better

E4:

Where do you see yourself professionally in 10 years? How will


the Mandela Washington Fellowship help you meet your goals? (100
words)

This section gives you room to elaborate Essay one

Research what MWF is all about, and how do you come in with your
work?

What are you doing in your work place that is making the society better
at large?

what will the work be in 10 years?

What are your underlined strategies to achieve that?

You can focus on using people multiplier effect

E5:

What do you consider to be your most significant professional accomplishment or most innovative
idea? Explain the accomplishment or innovation, why it was important, and how it relates to the track for
which you are applying. (250 words)

To Accomplish something is to be outstanding in something.

Enlist what make you better than every body on earth.

This is not the time to be modest. Please be proud sing everything out

List the amount of honors and awards you received in your life.

It can be an award of prowess when you are in primary, secondary or


university.

What have you done?

E6:

What do you consider to be a serious issue in your community or profession that


you are working to address? Describe any challenges you are facing and the skills and
resources you are using to help find a long term solution to this problem. Please also
explain how you have used your leadership skills to address the challenge. (250 words)

Reiterate your Impacts in the society

Describe the challenges your role in the society is addressing

Describe your initiative in making those roles viable
