Description of artifact and how the artifact meets the standard:
This artifact is called Miss. Dohmens Classroom News. This weekly newsletter is sent home in the students take
home folders each Friday of the week. It includes information about events happening in our classroom, important
reminders, and contact information. It also has pictures of students giving their sharing speeches, reading around the
room, participating in school dress-up days, and field trips. This newsletter allows me to communicate with parents
about current events and important information about our classroom.

Reflection on artifact (what went right, what went wrong, how to make better)
Communication with parents is the key in building a strong relationship. With parents and me working together as a
team, we can make the best choices for their child to succeed. This newsletter is a very helpful way to communicate with
parents weekly. It holds me accountable to make sure I am communicating with my students parents at least once a
week about upcoming events at our school, our weekly special schedule, contact information, and general information
about projects or reminders. I receive great feedback from parents saying they enjoy seeing pictures of our class and
having a paper copy they can hang on the fridge. The newsletter has been such a great tool to use in the classroom to
encourage communication with parents. I am going to continue to improve my communication with families by using a
weekly newsletter and maybe emailing it as well as sending it home.
