State-of-the Art ET Application

Practices
Educators today have become more aware and
active in adopting state-of-the-Art educational
technology practices that they can possibly adopt.
Recent changes have also occurred in the area of
pedagogical theory and practices. It is now
accepted that the contribution of the computer to
pedagogy makes up for good instruction. In sum,
these trends and new levels of learning require the
appropriate use of the state-of-the-art instruction
with the use of IT. But, some speculation arise
that there is an obstacle to IT pedagogical practice
especially for educators living in developing or
peasant economies, objectives are likely to be

Teachers acquire or improve on their

computer skill as well as their
"computer-in-the-classroom" skills. The
following trends should be recognized:
Through school or training center computer
courses, present-day students have become
computer literate. They send e-mail, prepare
computer encoded class reports, and even
make power-point presentation sometimes to
the surprise of their media tradition-bound
teachers.
Following the call for developing critical
thinking among students, teachers have
deemphasized rote learning and have spent
more time in methods to allow students to
comprehend/internalize lessons.

Shifting focus from lower-level traditional

learning outcomes, student
assessment/examinations have included
measurement of higher level learning
outcomes such as creative and critical
thinking skills.
Recent teaching-learning models (such
as constructivism and social constructivism)
have paved the way for instructional
approaches in which students rely less on
teachers as information-givers, and instead
more on their efforts to acquire information,
build their own knowledge, and solve
problems.

Experience
Most of the High School teachers ranging
the age from 40+ and above that are
situated in remote areas is most likely
possess the attitude of being traditional
teacher. They are always trying to
compensate what they have experience
and learn during the time when they are
still students. Well, according to them,
they will never learn such if traditional
teaching pedagogy is not effective. They
are right in some ways. But maybe, it is
just an alibi because in reality, some are
not computer oriented. They dont even
know how to manipulate computer, waste
of time and expensive accordingly.

Application
Computer is said to be expensive and waste of time,
but I think it is more waste of time when a teacher repeat
himself in teaching a topic which are not effectively
implemented. As a future teacher, I know that I can never
avoid the integration of educational technology in
instruction; I will serve as a model in guiding my students
in utilizing technology as source and a way in gathering
information. Constructivist approach is subsequently
assisted by technology to enhance teaching and learning
process. However, integrated technology cannot functional
one in learning process, consequently, integrated strategy
and technique will be imposed as well.
Through wise technical advice, schools can also acquire
the most appropriate hardware and software. At the same
time, training should ensure that the use of ET is fitted to
learning objectives. In addition, teachers should acquire
computer skills for so that they can serve as models in

IT ENTERS A NEWLEARNING
ENVIRONMENT
Traditional learning

In the traditional learning, students

learn to rote, memorization and set
instruction from their teachers. They
imbibe knowledge from what and how
their teachers import information to
them.

They are given that the spark of self- discovery,

the desire to know more; to improve ones
knowledge and broaden their horizons.
They are made aware of new information which
they can relate and apply to their own lives to
add to what they already know.
Technology has freed the minds from their rigid
systems of instruction to that of freedom and
discovery. It has empowered both teacher and
student to seek and give knowledge thru
independent creative ways
Through the integrated technologies, it able to
enter in another learning environment; it may
able to make things meaningful, discover
something, generate some knowledge and even
construct some things.
Integrated technologies do gave part in
learning environment. It provides another way
around for learning processes in every
individual. By this means, it can open mind
more fully to the other visualization that meant

Meaningful Learning
When children learn and apply their
knowledge in the practical life, that learning
becomes meaningful.
Rote learning is where you memorize
something without full understanding and
you dont know how the new information
relates to your other stored knowledge. For
our example, lets say we learn 5 facts in a
math course during a full semester by rote
learning.

Learning students perform tasks to uncover

what to be learned.
New ideas and new decisions are generated in
the learning process, regardless of the need to
move on or depart from organized setoff
activities previously set.
Students become personally engaged and not
subjected by the teacher to procedures he/she is
not allowed to depart from.
Examples:
case-based learning
incidental learning results incidentally from
an interaction, such as a crossword puzzle
learning by exploring/conversing asking
questions to solve a mystery, discover an
object
learning by reflection a teacher never gives
a direct answer, but instead answers
questions with questions, forcing the

Generative Learning
In generative learning, we have active learners who
attend to learning events and generate meaning
from these experience and draw inferences thereby
creating a personal model or explanation to the new
experience in the context of existing knowledge.
Generative Learning Strategies Recall
Integration Organization Elaboration
Recall It involves the learner pulling information
from long term memory.
Integration involves the learner to integrating
new knowledge with prior knowledge.
Organization involves the learner relating prior
knowledge to new ideas and concept in
meaningful ways.
Elaboration involves the connection of new
materials to information or ideas already in the
learners mind.

Example of
Generative learning.
Writing paragraph,
developing answers and
questions, drawing
pictures, organizing
ideas and concepts

Constructivism
Constructivism is described as a
learning theory based on authentic and
real-world situations. Students internalize
and construct new knowledge based on
past experiences. The constructivism
theory is student-centered and
encourages higher level processing skills
to apply their working knowledge.

THE MOST ACCEPTED PRINCIPLES

CONSTRUCTIVISM ARE:
Learning consists in what a person can
actively assemble for himself and not what he
can receive passively
The role of Learning is to help the individual
live/adapt to his personal world.
These two principles in turn lead to three
implications:
The learner is directly responsible for learning.
The context of meaningful learning consists in
the learner connecting his school activity with
real life.
The purpose of education is the acquisition of
practical and personal knowledge, not abstract or
universal truths.
