School Assessment 2

1. What are at least two strengths and two weaknesses of your school?
a. The two strength are my after school activity programs and my school curriculum
b. The two weakness are lunch program and teacher base healthy program.
2. Describe each strength and weakness based on your observation/experience as well
as your results from the School Assessment Tool.
a. After doing the school assessment my two strength are my after school activity
programs and my school curriculum. McClintok offers after school activities for
every student at the school. From a general club like the walking the club all the
way to competitive sports. This allows all the students an opportunity to be active.
I also feel the curriculum is also strong because the school requires all students to
take a physical education class to graduate high school. This increase student
activity significantly.
b. I feel there are two major weakness that can be improved easily to create a better
school. The first weakness is the lunch portion of the school. The school offers
limited food that are heathy for the students. The students have a wide variety of

food that is not heathy and increase student obesity. The second weakness is the
staff are not fully involved in a healthy campus. There is not programs for
teachers to be healthy. I feel that there should be a program in place that allows
teachers to be fit and a part of student clubs
3. What are at least two ways to improve the policies in place at your school? Explain
detailed information for each way and what you expect from each way.
a. I believe that we can improve fairly easy. First we must create a realistic policy
that makes both the students happy as well as the teachers. For example we must
find foods that students like that is healthy. Students dont eat healthy foods
because they are either nasty or they are premade days before they are eaten. I
dont think anyone wants to eat old or nasty food.
b. Second, we must force the policy and not allow lope holes that the cafeteria can
take to provide not healthy food. For example the school will give a student pizza
and fries, but provide a little salad at the edge of the plate. Most students will eat
the pizza and throw the salad away.
4. What are at least two ways that you can you use this information to engage
administration, teachers, parents, students and the community in promoting more
healthful behaviors? Include a specific description for how to use the results from
the School Assessment Tool as well as your ideas for improvement.
a. The first way I can use this information is by talking to my peers about the
information that I have found. This will open there eyes and allow us to
brainstorm on how to improve student and teacher healthy community. We can
even involve the community and have a whole school/ community program that
has different sub-programs for everyone to join.
b. Second, we can create a plan to promote our program to the whole community.
For example we can start by sending newsletters to all the parent with our mission

and programs we will offer. This will be a great start for our school. then we will
move forward with the plan
5. How can the information obtained be used to support your potential topic for the
Signature Assignment
a. This information is really valuable because I am actually doing my signature
assignment on a whole school program.
STEP 3
The school I am at is McClintok High School in the Tempe School District. At the school there is
1832 students that attend the school. The class average is about 21-23 students depending on the
subject area. With all the students there is only 1.5 % free/reduced lunch students. In the school
there is a very small portion of ELLs 5-10 percent. The school is located in a suburban area.
Ethnic makeup is very diverse with having many different ethnicities, McClintok is a public
school that is a title 1 school but received an A for academics
