1a.

What part does technology

currently play in your teaching?
a) Re: the preparation of my lectures I have to utilize the computer
to type, prepare and upload the necessary information for my
students. I project my slides and videos in the lectures using
the projector (for visual media) and speakers (for audio). I also
project quizzes for students to do in class.

1b. What technologies do you

currently use?
b) Laptops, projectors, photocopiers, scanners

2. Why do you use the technologies

you do? What guides or limits your
choices?
I use the aforementioned technologies primarily because they are
easy to use. Moreover, in the limited that is available, the
technology allows me to deliver the information in a timely,
expedient manner to my students. Moreover these devices can
integrate a multiplicity of media which is then shared with my
students

3. To what extent does your

teaching philosophy speak to the
use of media and technology?
In an excerpt of my teaching philosophy I stated that teaching (and
learning) requires in-depth interactions with information. For
example, (within and outside the physical classroom) active
teacher to student and student to student discussions as well as
personal self directed readings should be provided to allow
students to interact meaningfully with information. This should be
done as students learn differently and so no one teaching method
should be utilized.
On e-learning I upload a variety of videos and articles for students
to watch on their own. I do recognise that there are a plethora of
ways by which I can interact with my students on e-learning;
however I need to learn how.
Conceptualization of Teaching
Excerpt from Teaching Philosophy CUTL Course 1 (Semester 1
2014 - 2015)
Teaching is not just a profession but a necessary process which
allows an individual to guide and develop others and the self.
Teaching affects not only the student but the teacher as well. For
both individuals it requires in-depth interactions with information,
challenging previous givens thereby creating mental room for
creativity and growth. For example, (within and outside the
physical classroom) active teacher to student and student to
student discussions as well as personal self directed readings
allow students to interact meaningfully with information. It is
recognized that students learn differently and so no one teaching

method should be utilized. If the mantra of, no student is to be

left behind is adopted the teacher would be compelled to
provide various opportunities to help students assimilate and use
information to highlight their strengths and overcome their
weaknesses. A teacher is to be passionate, caring, motivating,
encouraging and must lead by example. Reflecting on my best
and favourite teachers, the aforementioned were characteristics
that they all possessed. I would not be here today if it were not
for them.
