1. Title
Gum with the longest flavor
2. Abstract
Before the lab began, we knew that all gums come in different colors and flavors. Gum
is a chewy harden syrup. We were wondering which gum would be the one that would
last with its flavor the longest. Our procedure was to open a pack of each gum and start
the timer once we put the gum in our mouths. We found that Juicy Fruit was the one
with the most flavor while the one with the least flavor was Trident. We explained our
finding by saying that our hypothesis was not accepted. We also posed a question
about the flavored gum as a possible way to add more flavor to other gums that lost
their flavor the quickest.
3. Introduction
Before the lab began we knew that every gum comes in different flavors for example,
watermelon, strawberry, mint and many more. Gum is a syrup type of liquid that comes
from specific tree which is the sapodilla tree. We all observed that not all gums will last
a long time with its flavor. Also, they come in different colored packs and the packs
come in different sizes. There are 12 to 24 pieces of gum,depending what gum brand it
is, in a regular pack.
4. Question/Hypothesis
For this lab our question was: How much time does it take for 4 different types of gum to
lose their flavor? If I open all 4 packs of gum which are the following: Dentyne,
Wrigleys, Juicy Fruit and Trident which one would lose its flavor the quickest. I
hypotheses the one that will lose its flavor the fastest is Juicy Fruit because it's really
sweet.
5. Material
- 1 pack of each of the following gums: Dentyne, Wrigleys, Juicy Fruit and Trident
and a timer.
6. Procedure

Get the packs of gum

Open the packs of each gum flavor

Before you put the gum in your mouth have a timer ready to start the time
Then grab any flavored gum of your choice and put it in your mouth
Chew the gum until the flavor is gone and stop the timer at the same time
Record the data and repeat until youre finished with the rest of the gums

Our pattern statement started off kind of increasing then it dropped. The pattern is supported by
Juicy Fruit being the one with the most long lasting flavor.

8. Conclusion
Our hypothesis was not accepted because we thought Juicy Fruit was going to lose its
flavor the fastest but it ended up being the one with the most flavor. We hypothesized

that Juicy Fruit was going to lose its flavor the fastest because it has more flavor added
to it and we thought that the gum with the most flavor would be the one that would lose
the flavor the fastest.
Some possible errors could have been not starting the timer at the same time you put
the gum in your mouth and getting a lower minute/second. Our results are conclusive
because we compared our data to our neighbors data and we were very careful. We
inferred that our patterns exists because Juicy Fruit has the most flavor.
