I attend one of my previous teacher class as when I was student I


learnt a lot, he have an excellent teaching style. I joined his class of
level5 business students which the lesson was about Heart.
The teacher was completing the lesson by working on exercise sheet
as a way of reemphasis on the learning of previous lesson, he
divided students in the group and distribute a heart Stereoscopic
and use heart diagram with the terms showing in the board. The
groups need to fill a table with the right process. By doing this
students I think they will learn deeply they will know exactly where
and how the heart is working not just seeing only a photo.
While students were working the teacher was making sure that they
are getting it right and direct them individually by going around the
tables checking for their answers and their understanding. By doing
this, I think student will work and will focus in their work more as
they know someone is expecting something from them.
There were some students not working, he always come to them
and check for their answers and tell them that they need to work.
The teacher use the strategy of letting them to by select one of the
girls to answer the question together with class.
In my future classes, I will use exercises sheets in the courses that
need more memorizing the terms and in a same time understand
them. As I believe that by repeating, keep practicing it and writing it
the information will least for longer time with the core
understanding.

For this week I attend two classes with same teacher but with
different courses one was for Community Service Learning and other
was Research Method.
For the class of Community Service Learning I observed that the
teacher was punctual she enter the class on time, greet them and
started to take the attendance. Also, there was a clear instruction
from the beginning that phones should be in silence. After passing
the 5 minutes of the class she started to review the previous class
lesson. From what happen in first five minutes I learned that, it is
important to be organized at the beginning of the class as students
need to know it is the time for them to be focus and the lesson will
start.
To start the new lesson the teacher use the strategy of letting
students to think about the lesson title and define it to measure
their understanding of the concept. To do that she divided them in
the group to brainstorm (3 minutes). The teacher talking was less
than the students as there were many activities that been assign
during the class for students. By doing that I think it in forces

students learning more than if the teacher just explain it in lecture


style. By doing this it combine the learning and entertainments
which I believe it is suitable way for attracting the new generation
for studying (learn by games). During the activities the teacher was
asking critical questions that leading students to think deeper which
I think it was good direction.
From the first observation I learned that how in the future I will use
activities to foster the learning outcome of the lesson.
For the class of Research Method the lesson plan for this class was
different as the students need to work in their action research
project. For the two hours of the class the teacher invited the
college librarian to show them how to use the HCT library database
and how to be specific in selecting their topics. From this class
observation I learned that it is important to spend a prober time for
students to learn the new things and can implement it well as it is
important for such as an action research project to learn the
fundamental before they begin to write the report.

Economics for

Managers (Business)

I attend Economics for Managers class, the teacher start by
greeting the students, the class environment was clam no noise
every one seated, organized table setting in the groups. The teacher
was completing the previous class exercise.
I noticed some strategies that the teacher were using while doing
the exercise with students. The process was so organized and
suitable with the students level and the course level of difficulty. He

go throw the question step by step explain why, what to focus on


and what the right step to start with. I thought that it is good way
specially if it comes in economics where the students need to know
why we use this mythology, give real examples to connect with.
Also, the teacher was using the board and select for volunteering
student to solve the question, and while the student is working he
give advices on how importance to do the home work for them. Give
them some general words related to economics so the student can
select and use the right word for the economics conception.
The body language of the teacher was a major characteristic when
he was explain some economic words like elastic and inelastic, he
was using his hand to describe the meaning which I think it is good
way to reemphasis the learning. And, he make sure that to eye
contact with all in the class. Use positive words like excellent, good
which are important to encourage student to participate more and
feel that they engaged.
Another thing which I think was excellent strategy that I will use it in
the future in my teaching is do not ask student directly that if they
understand the lesson as some of students may be feel embarrass
or not comfortable to show them self that they didnt understand
something so instead of using Did you understand the lesson use
If I make myself clear or understood.

I attend Business and Commercial Law classes for two different


groups of students. For the both classes I noticed that the teacher

were using the same method such as how he start the class by
writing the plan in the board. The both classes were organized well
from no noise outside the class to well settled tables and good
lighting.
There were several strategies that the teacher was using it during
the class. He was asking for some crime news if they read it in the
todays news to discuss it together in general. I think that by doing
this students will have more knowledge about the course as when
they will read this kind of articles they will notice some legal words,
examples of courts and many other things that at the end will foster
their understanding more.
It was Sharia lesson where there were many Arabic Islamic
definitions, here the teacher used the strategy of dividing students
in the groups to present those topics in front of the other students.
By doing this the teacher I think that he was reinforcing the
information of the students as these topics where already taught in
high schools in the same time increasing the students engagement
in the class. Another thing I notice that while students were
working in this task the teacher was walking around instead of
setting in his table which is a good way to answer students
questions and direct them right before presenting it.
From observing this two classs for same the lesson with same level
I found that the level of engagement of the students is different in
spite of the teacher using same method of teaching and explaining.
As in the future I should be planning the lesson depending also in
which type of students I have to increase the involvement and
deliver the lesson in more entering way and same message.
Evaluating students oral presentation
Group Case Study
Community Service Learning

My mentor assigned me a task of evaluating with her an oral
presentation for a case study. This case study assigned as students
should read the case and analysis it and present the outcome to
class. And the information should be related to the theories and
concepts covered in the course.
Using the evaluation rubric of the group case study. I gave them
marks for these categories: content, voice, body language, power
point and involvement of the class with the total grade of 100.
I faced some difficulties in evaluating presentation for whole group
as some criteria we have to mark them as an individual like for voice
and the body language. To deal with this problem I marked the
individual category while the student is presenting her part. While
marking for individuals I faced difficulty to evaluate one student who
talks less and mark her for the whole criteria. On the other hand I
marked the group category at the end of the presentation so I can
put the overall mark of the whole group performance. After
evaluation I compared my marks and with my mentor marks it was
similar.
Another thing, I learned from this evaluation is how to mark and
deal with the special need student especially with projects like oral
presentations. After conversation with my mentor she told me that,
she gave her questions and the student should answer those by
writing as the student with the special need cannot hear, speak or
see properly. And how to deal with others special need differ
according to their needs.
To learned about this more I decided to read, search and talk with
our college counselor for better knowledge for my future teaching.

Intrapersonal Development Reflection topics for week 3


Personality impacts in communication; Personality and
impact on teaching and learning
My personality dimension is the Organized Gold. I did it before when
I was studying but this time I expected that it changed because I
feel that some characteristics on me changed but it not happened
during the workshop I found that it is similar. By knowing the
different personalities and getting self-awareness it will help to know
how we feel (mind, emotions and physical) and why we feel this way
which will enhance our daily life productivity. Enhancing the selfawareness will benefit me as a teacher how to communicate with
different types of students, how get them involved in the session,
how set up their project teams. By understanding that there are
different personality types, I can distribute students by different
characteristics so everyone strengths can be used and reduce the
weakness of any one to overcome to the success of the project
work. The Resourceful Orange is the personality types it hard to
work with them as they do the task regardless there is a deadline or
not as long as the task is done even if its at last time. Ask for daily
update of the task and ask for feedback to make sure the work is in
process of completing and use their straight to do other tasks.

Week1, Reflection1:
Sunday May 4th 2014
From our session of Skills Enhancement Program I learned a lot that
will contribute in my learning process of becoming a teacher in the
future. One thing that is important as we are beginners is how to
observe other teachers well to know their teaching styles and how
they control their class students so we can implement it latter. Mr.

Stan gave us many things that we can focus on while observing


teacher to get as much as we can to learn from. Another thing is, he
gave us idea of attending different classes like foundations and
different majors to analyze the level of differences between students
and their engagement, attitude and behavior. Talking about the new
program170@17 by the Vice Chancellor Dr. Tayeb Kamali and Mr.
David gave me more idea of the program which leads me to know
what is expected from me to do and how can I prepare myself to this
responsibility.
My inspiration was all the attenders and the presenters of the
session. As the attenders they came from different levels of
experiences and they worked in hard situation despite of that they
have the courage to take this new responsibility. And as the
presenters they dealing with daily challenges and new tasks and
they know how to manage and balance their time very well. The
inspiration is never give up and work hard you will reach high.
My future steps that I will take to get the most out of the teachers in
my college are:
1. To attend different classes not only business.
2. Ask new teachers about their challenges as a beginner in
teaching how they deal with it
3. Talk with experienced teacher about how to manage classes
and preparation for the lesson
4. Start to look at different sites that the HCT use for materials,
preparing exams and other things
To conclude my reflection, overall the session was beneficial I
learned a lot like how to use Google drive and how to do video
conference using Zoom. As I mention before my inspiration was
all their insistence to give their best of them to work harder gave
me a drive to not withdraw and work hard to achieve my goals to
develop my skills to become a teacher.

Preparations for the workshop
When we took the responsibility of organizing the workshop we
dont really have any idea where to start. So we decided to contact
with previous organizers and we got an idea on how we are going to
begin. First step was how we are going to attract the business
students to present their own workshop. We planned different ways
such as a short presentation showing them the benefits that they
will gain as presenters, we designed a poster and distributed all
over the campus where we got also presenters from different
majors, announce it in the email and we targeted some students
that we know them.
For external presenters we contact with Khadija and Aisha Al Naqbi
they gave us some of the external presenters that they conduct a
workshop from different companies. So we send them an email
some of them reply and some other not.
From our experience of getting presenters we realize that to have
physical rewards and recognition are not enough for students to
motivate them to present and take more work beside their busy
schedule of study and projects. As an alternative, for the next
business conference I suggest to combine it with course project that
suit it and in same time have a verity of topics to share with others.

There are many Skills that we learned from organizing the


workshops. From managing the sudden problems and changes now
I can deal and be more flexible and always think about the solutions
more than worrying about the problems. I managed to work with
team and distributing tasks equally and communicate with students
and other staff to achieve the tasks. Also, I learned how I can
manage my time by stay organized and prioritize tasks which will go
a long way to moving me and my team forward.
The involvement in the business conference gave me a chance of
exchanging ideas, learn new things and expand my network.
There were some challenges I faced during working in the business
conference. First one was to convince student to do their own
workshop and to get reasonable numbers of them with qualitative
work and effective presenting. The most challengeable was when
we have to register student online to the workshop and using Excel
which was complicated. Also, during the conference day we had to
cancel some of the workshop and adjust students to others
workshop. Another challenge was to pass the security clearance for
the external presenters where we had to cancel about three of
them.

I attend class for education year2 students, I noticed that the class
was very organized the teacher planned her lesson very well. I liked
her way in lesson plan where end of the class she do a workshop
every time introducing different learning method like References
which I think is a good strategy in motivating students to have
knowledge about topics that will enhance their abilities on research
and can implement with more efficiency.
The teacher was using the board in writing the class plan, write the
late/ absent time policy to be marked with the student name. Using
this strategy the teacher I think is making clear and removing any
doubts and removing the excuses of student we didnt listen avoid
this kind of situations which is the best way to be handled.
During the tasks there been a clear instruction with the time limit for
the activity, that all members are equally accountable and each one
have to contribute. And, while they were presenting the teacher was
making sure of this by asking and insuring who speaks, walk around
them which is I believe that next time or in the future in any place
they will learn about the teamwork and the importance of following
the instructions.
For the environment, the class was so organized every one setting in
their groups, but when the time comes of other classes break it
become noisy outside. Here the teacher also decided to give her
class break also so using this strategy she avoid misusing the time
in explain something without a point as student will not be focused.
To conclude, I think education teachers are following to teach their
future teachers the good way of teaching and I am planning to
attend more of education classes and learn about these strategies
to implement it in my teaching in future.

I attend level two diploma class for information technology major.
This class start like any classes, the teacher take the attendance,
tell the class plan and review last lesson.
This class I notices a lot of lacks, the teacher cannot control the
class in sample words, need classroom management skill. In spite of
good teaching skills he explain the lesson very well, emphasis on
the new words and concepts, ask question, know the students
names, spends more time in explain the important concepts and
give time to student to ask questions clear their doubts ask their
class maids. The students were not with the teachers, some of
them leave the class and come later, and some were chatting and
others playing with their phones. I noticed the students there were
only two out of15 who were concentrating asking questions.
From this class I understand the importance of having classroom
management skill, having good teaching skill is not enough to
deliver a successful lesson by itself. For my future if I faced same
situation of these kind of student who not taking the class seriously
with proper attention I will give them mini quiz at the end of each
class and marked with the class participation percentage. Also, set
some rules like no mobile phones on the desk, close the laptop if we
dont use it, who will leave during the class and come five minutes
late she will mark late for the class and many others strategies we
can use to manage the class and the students.

This class was for Information System were the student working with
and trying the lesson practically by using Excel program.
The teacher started the class by greeting the students and taking
the attendance. After five minutes of the class time she started to
write the class lesson plan in the board and explain what it is about.
I like this strategy of writing the class plan as the teacher were using
it as a checklist when finish with the first she do sum up of this
particular topic and make sure that everyone understand it before
moving to the next topic.
While working and solving the exercise sheet, the teacher was
moving slowly, explain every single step, repeat it, give time to
students to try it and go around the students to make sure that they
are doing right.
When explaining the exercise she gives real examples and relate
with the mythology before and then do the exercise. This strategy I
think it give more clarity for the exercise topic before enter the real

question and make it more practical to their mind, they know why
they taking it and how they may use it in the future in their life.

Overall, I think from observing this class I learned how to handle the
practical lessons where student need to learn properly and try the
formulas and the teacher need to be patient and make sure in
every step that the students are following with him or not.

Marking Midterm Exam
Short Answer
Practice

As a practice one of the teachers gave me some exam papers to
mark the short answers with a model answer and a marking rubric.
The most difficult is to mark short answers as it is unlikely to have
one single right or wrong answer comparing to marking multiple
choice questions where marking maybe fairly straightforward.
To make it easy for me I put some strategies before marking to
maintain a consistency I marked each single question for all papers
at once and make notes about where the answer doesnt fit with the

rubric criteria. I found that using the rubric made the marking more
easy, fast and accurate. Creating our own rubric help in
understanding the exam questions more in depth, save time as we
know what to focus on and what to be ignored, enhance fair
marking as every paper will go throw same marking method and we
can use it for giving students feedback too.
From marking I experienced how difficult to identify the right answer
especially when students try to make up the answers.
The marking rubric criteria was ready from the teacher which made
my marking more easily. For next marking I will create my own one
so I can try how it works and if I could do it perfectly or not. Another
thing, I need to consider in my future marking practice to take
bigger number of papers so I can try which strategies I could use for
improving the quality and consistency.

During this semester I been assigned for exam invigilation for many
times. And I learned a lot of things. For example, I learned how to
prepare for the exam before it start, from how to organize the
tables, give instructions on cleaning the table from stuff and
material, and making sure everything settled.

One of the invigilations I did was for foundation students where


they should take the exam on iPads. To be prepare for this I took
some practice on how to lock an exam using the passcode, how to
connect it with Wi-Fi and other technical problems that may occur
during the exam period.
Also, I learned how much is important to clarify for students the
plagiarism rules and policies so they dont try to cheat and be
serious. And give them the message that you are not going to
ignore it if it happen and it will lead for huge result.
During the exam time I learned how to handle students questions,
how may I clarify their worries but without giving them an answer.
Also, I found one student with special need I noticed that and I
learned how may we deal with them such as the instructor provided
a large paper with big font and communicate with her in writing.

Overall, my experience for all was beneficial I learned a lot by


observing other teachers on how they handle situation and the
students. In my future classes, I will make sure my student to be
aware of plagiarism policies and what I am expecting from them as
a behavior.

Reflection Week10 of Academic Year 2014


Field Trip
2/11/2014

From joining one of the teachers with her students for a field trip I
learned a lot and I am planning for organizing one in the future.
I learned how to organize students and keep them together, I
suggested to take their phone number besides taking only their
attendance so that will help us in chaperoning to save time in
finding missing students. Another thing, I learned how to handle
adults students who usually were arguing and talking while the
session. To avoid this situation I think that we need to organize a
session on what expected behavior they should follow and why. As I
believe that if the students did not maintain a good behavior that
will affect our reputation as a college and maybe next time they will
not welcome us. Also, I learned that how to handle unexpected
situation in the trip as our bus was not working I kept all students
together.
For future organizing trip I should follow the field trip policy which
are important and I need to know. As it is the responsibility of the
faculty to organize for a field trip and to complete a field trip data
form and other requirements that I am still unfamiliar with.

Reflection Week13 of Academic Year 2014


Work placement visit
23/11/2014
I had a visit with my mentor for work placement as from next
semester I will take group also. As a practice for me I visited 4
places I observed my mentor how he deal and have a conversation
with the employer and the student. I learned what a process to
follow and the new method of report as students should submit
journals and present a presentation as a final report. On the other
hand, the teacher should write a paragraph reflecting in his visiting
and send it to the work placement supervisor.

From this visiting I noticed that some students were not at their
work placement station which was a waste of time driving for long
distance. I suggest next time and what I am planning to do for next
semester is to communicate with the employer to make sure if the
student is their or absent or there are an event going on before and
ask them to keep the planned visit date secret from the student.
I also heard the conversation between my mentor and the employer
about the issue that the student have their and how he tried to
solve this issue so the student can work comfortably and effectively.
I learned how important is for both sides to work together without
having any issues and maintain a positive relationship.

For more development, I am planning to read my mentor reflecting


paragraphs and students journals to have more clear idea. Also, if I
get the chance of practicing evaluation for the final presentation it
will enhance my knowledge too.

Session Observation
Deep& Surface Learning

From my attending this session I have observed many teaching
strategies and techniques.
I think that the way of organizing the presentation was good. I
noticed that the lesson was planned effectively clarifying the main
learning outcome of the session which is important to link between
it with the course learning objective and to be clear for the students.
The way the lesson was planned as it was important concepts their

where a hand book for reading before attending the session so


everyone get an idea. I think it was great strategy to emphasis the
learning, students can go back when they want to clear their doubts
and in the same time it save time for teacher from answering
question that already available.
The presentation also was including the references under each slide
which is I think ethically to refer to the copy writer and at the same
time delivering to the students the importance of references so they
can implemented in their work and projects.
Also, the presentation was contain a glossary of terms which I
believe was good idea as there where some difficult words that were
important to be clarified and understood to be able to deliver the
lesson.
Overall, for my future lessons I will try to make it smoothly and
organized.

Reflection5
Session of 19 May

1. I think the shallow learning approach suits when the student


have to memories the facts theories like the rules of
mathematics where they have to know basic principles
exactly the same like formulae. Also, I think it suits more
when the teachers introduce the topic for a first time as there
is no previous link to the subject (unlinked facts).
2. Deep process way for learning vocabulary do it as a game
starting with matching the word with suitable picture, then
act the word at the same time students have to guess the
word. After that prepare short puzzles of the words then have

a short quiz using fill in method. This ways gradually deeping


the learning words in the students minds.
3. We wrote a finale exam for one of our college courses where
the teacher gave us a list of questions where we have to
memories the answers and he select 10 of the listed question
in the exam and test us. As an alternative he could gave us a
case study where we can analysis our knowledge of the
course and reinforced with the case study which could led to
deep understanding of the concepts.
