Q: What is writers voice?
A: Writers voice is the individual writing style of an author.
Q: Why write in different genres? What type (genre) of writing will you be
doing in school/career/other?
A: Papers will have different requisites depending on the subject, author, and
audience. In school the majority of writing Ive done has been expository or
narrative. For example, an expository paper Id written for my Science,
Technology & Society class covered the effects our current development of
artificial intelligence. In my future career I expect to be writing more
persuasive material, as Ill be working in a business trying to introduce new
concepts.
Q: In your major what style are you supposed to use?
A: The computer science and computer engineering departments expect me
to write papers in APA.
Q: What is rhetorical situation?
A: It is a set of circumstances that involves at least one person
communicating to modify the perspective of at least one other person.
Q1: What genre do you most often write in? (not necessarily academic)
A1: I consider myself to be a strongly opinionated person who enjoys
debating others about their beliefs. Therefore Id say the genre I usually write
in is persuasive.
Q2: What is your purpose?
A2: My purpose is to convince the audience that my perceptions about a
subject are correct using logic.
Q2: Do you think of your audience?
A2: Yes, I believe taking an audiences viewpoints into account is necessary
to be persuasive. For example, an opinion of mine Im careful discussing is
that the U.S. shouldnt be giving Israel billions of dollars for a defense
budget. I believe this because were already severely in debt, and theyre
using that money to conquer what was once Palestine. If I was trying to
persuade a Christian of this, theyd disagree because their religious
scriptures predicted the Jewish state would be reborn, and most American
media outlets say Israel is our only ally in the Middle East.

Q3: Where do you go for evidence?

A3: My usual method is to google a subject to find academic journals, news
reports, etc. that support my perception.
Q4: Do you use prewriting techniques? example?
A4: Yes, before I write a paper I decide my stance on the subject under
consideration, then create a list of topics to discuss.
Subject: Drug war in the USA
Stance: End it
Topics:
-Actions to regulate/stop trade of drugs have been unsuccessful so far
-Primarily benefits the state as a source of income for persecution
-Has created felons out of nonviolent citizens
-Medicinal properties of certain drugs (such as medical marijuana as a
painkiller) are replaced by drugs with similar but also harmful effects (such
as opiates)
Q5: Write a short paragraph directed toward me about your expectations
in this class
A5: I predict my experiences in this class to be dissimilar to any class Ive
had so far. This is mostly because Ive never seen a professor with a blue and
red undercut before. You recently sorted us into the Hogwarts Houses, and
since I like small groups and Harry Potter books I expect this class to be fun.
Several students in Slytherin have personalities that I find entertaining so I
doubt the discussions will be boring.
Q5: Rewrite the short paragraph in a text to a close friend. How do they
differ?
A5: Dude I have a feeling my English class this semester is gonna be pretty
interesting. My professor has a blue and red undercut and seems pretty
liberal. We just got sorted into Hogwarts houses (from Harry Potter) and Im
in Slytherin. There are two Asian guys in my house who make me laugh, and
theres nobody that really gets on my nerves. This rewritten paragraph is
much less formal. It contains contractions and acronyms not commonly used
in academic papers.
