The Oce of the Provost presents

Global Threats to the World:

How Engineering and Business Can Make a Dierence

A Conversation with Lieutenant General Jerey Talley
Chief of the United States Army Reserve

Tuesday, September 29th, 3:30-5:00pm

GFS, Room 106
(Grace Ford Salvatori Hall)

Global security and stability is becoming less obtainable as it is threatened today by

a growing list of challenges. These challenges include, but are not limited to:
proliferation of nuclear, biological, and chemical weapons; regional war among
states; civil wars and failed states; international terrorism; global recession and
poverty, international crime and drug cartels; and humanitarian crisis and refugees.
Many solutions have been attempted to resolve these challenges; unfortunately,
violence or the use of lethal force is still often the solution of choice. However, other
means to resolve conflict and promote global security and stability are available and
should be pursued more aggressively. Specifically, the holistic application of
engineering and business can make a difference in empowering disadvantaged
populations to help themselves as they help to address some of the growing global
threats to the world.
Moderated by Matt Gratias, Ph.D. Candidate
