Debate - break class into small groups (for/against), have them discuss debate topic, share
opinions with entire class [50 mins]
Main points to think about: (write on the board)
1. You need to think of as many different things to say as possible before the debate.
2. You should think about what the other team might say and how you can respond.
3. You must use the opinion, agreement and disagreement phrases that we have discussed.
1.Should the death penalty be legal?
2. Should military service be mandatory?
3. Married people live happier lives than unmarried people.
4. Should adults have the right to carry a concealed handgun?
5. Should animals be used for scientific testing?
6. Do violent video games contribute to youth violence?

Minimal Pairs - review /i/ & /I/ [25 mins]

A minimal pair is a pair of words that vary by only a single sound, usually meaning sounds that
may confuse English learners, like the /f/ and /v/ in fan and van, or the /e/ and // in desk & disk
In pairs, come up with 5 minimal pairs
Split class into 2 groups, compete to write the most amount of minimal pairs on the board in 3
mins. Winners get prize!
Review vocabulary covered this week: have Ss in pairs list vocab used this week
Ex: brainstorming, stage fright, tongue twister, constitutional, republic, democracy
