Course Objective: The goal in this class is focused on preparing students for a
successful future by building a solid foundation in science.
In this course students will learn:
How scientific concepts and skills are applied to the real world.
How to utilize technology in research.
How to identify potential benefits and hazards of science.
Instruction in this course targets all the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS)
specifications. The concepts and processes to be covered in this course encourage
critical reflection, creative thinking, and application for self and world improvement.
Expectations: In this class students are responsible for completing all assignments in a
timely manner and showing extra effort in taking control of their learning.
Classroom Rules: To maximize all learning, students are expected to follow all rules in
class.

LAB SAFETY RULES: Lab safety rules are important and are in place for the
safety of all students and teacher, all students are expected to follow them.

Students will act with safety in mind at all times.


Students will follow all experiment safety guidelines.
No eating or drinking in the lab.
Students will wear the necessary protective clothing for each experiment.
Students will not alter any science experiment.
Lab tools will be used for their designed purpose only.
Students will keep the lab clean and orderly and clean up after themselves.
Students will ask questions if they are unclear of the instructions.
No horseplay will be tolerated.

Consequences: Breaking a rule is a choice and consequences are delivered.


1st infraction: Verbal Warning from the teacher
2nd infraction: Phone call to parents
3rd infraction: Office referral/Parent Conference

Supplies: The following supplies are required for everyday use.

Hall Pass: At teacher discretion

Course Requirements: This course consists of inquiry based investigations, textbook


readings, lectures, research projects, group presentations, and homework. Attendance,
classroom participation, completion of all assignments and complete performance of all
exams are all important contributions to the successful completion of this course. The
students grade averages will be calculated the following percentages.
Grading Procedures:
Daily Work/ Homework 80%
6 weeks Test/Quizzes: 20%
